This reminds me ofthe old saying "history is written by the winner". Humans have known since the dawn of time that controlling the info controls the people. I'm sure everyone cam remember a time where you realized something you had though to be true to be a lie designed to alter your behavior or emotions. People are kinda like goldfish. I hope to become a scientist myself one day. Please understand that I really do feel you on this. It is maddening how folks never bother to try to understand the world around them on any deeper level. Much less actually perform any sort of paradigm shift when empirical data is staring them in the face. Growing up in the Bible Belt makes you extra familiar with this. In that case it is driven mostly by fear. Even with the secular crowd I think that the loss of self associated with a possible paradigm shift can be a contributing factor. I'm sure arrogance and a lot of other things can be brought into it. The best way to sum it up, in my opinion, is that the problem lies with the ego(Easter philosophic sense not Freudian) not wanting to evolve.

Its just that our reach only extends just beyond our grasp and that isn't all that far in the grander scheme of things. Science is great just not when it tries to become the new priesthood.

I think the vaccine deniers should pull their heads out. The report that started the whole vaccine debate has been disproved, and the doctor that proposed the vaccines will screw up your kids theory, has been debunked also. As for vaccines, I'm old enough to remember polio and how many kids wore braces and were screwed up the old iron lung. Well, when the vaccine came out there was no pissing and moaning about how it may be dangerous. The whole elementary school was lined up in the gym and were given the shot. Everyone was glad to get vaccinated. The reason to the vaccines was and is to wipe out some really bad illnesses that used to be common place but now you don't even think about them.

H3ad, this is the identical method we saw acted out all over America last summer. You recall all the pissed off screeching individuals. While we know now the majority of what they were screeching about was not of fact. Affixing actual details to the debate was not their intent. Creating enough anarchy to terminate the discussion was their purpose.

We are at present seeing this duplicate approach engaged in this issue, they run absent from regurgitated material and elevate the volume in order to get the MODS attention, subsequently so they might close the thread. Merely, on account as they have nothing of actuality to add.

There at no time existed a debate to start with. You hand out up to date scientific literature, and what you obtain in order to discredit what you have put fourth are observations like propaganda, socialism and repetitive attacks using substance that has already been debunked.

To you, myself and others this issue is about science to them, it is one more brick in the wall in contrast to their freedom. According to their perspective, you nor I perceive the cryptic agenda behind the science. That is the reason they are so steadfast the subject is 100% political.

I respect and will adhere to any decision the MODS make yet I would be pleased if they would consider this thought.

There is nothing wrong with the science. Science, facts, knowledge and all related subjects only become muddied and suppressed when either people in general insist on being 100% correct all of the time and stop listening altogether.

If we are talking about cannabis, there are thousands of years of evidence that points to cannabis' benefits and virtues. Those benefits and virtues were suppressed due to racism, "moral Christian values" and flat-out lies. So now, the question becomes how do we, as a part of the cannabis commnity, reverse decades of anti-cannabis propagada to bring back knowledge about cannabis that has been supressed?

(The Wall Street Journal) - By analyzing the DNA of the world's oldest people, Boston University scientists said Thursday they discovered a genetic signature of longevity and expect to offer a test soon that could let people learn whether they have the constitution to live to a very old age.

The researchers, who studied more than 1,000 people over the age of 100, identified a set of 150 unique genetic markers that, taken together, are linked to extreme longevity. They acknowledged they did not know all the genes involved, nor their exact functions in extending old age.

"This is an extremely complex trait that involves many processes," said lead researcher Paola Sebastiani, a biostatistician at BU's School of Public Health. Even so, "we can compute your specific predisposition to exceptional longevity," she said.

The researchers said they had no plans to patent the technique nor profit from it. Instead, they expect to make a free test kit available on the internet later this month to foster longevity research.

But the test might reveal more than some people would like to know, the BU scientists warned, because genetic testing often shows tantalizing but incomplete information. People with genes for extreme longevity could face a series of difficult decisions about their careers, retirement savings, insurance coverage, medical treatments and marriages in old age.

Scientists have long sought to crack the genetic code of healthy aging. On average, people in developed countries live for between 80 and 85 years, largely as a result of improvements in diet and public health. But the oldest of the old -- the "wellderly" -- live two to three decades longer, often free of mental and physical ailments.

The oldest person alive today is 116 years old, according to the Los Angeles Gerontology Group. The oldest person on record lived to be 122 years old.

I do have to point out that the science gore presented, could not have come from gore, since much of it has been known longer than gore has been alive... Some exaggeration did come from him, but I don't get any of my science from any politicians or corporate spokesmodel... Thats for people who can't tell the difference in science and politics.

Scientists need to engage the public directly... filtering information through talking heads who hardly understand the information, is another form of knowledge suppression.
