any hardware store has it, if you can get the type that doesnt expand as much or your resevoir may buckle in when its setting up.

overbudget you are goddamn McGyver and I love it.

You don't seem to mess around at all. I can't wait to see your garden a year from now as it starts to produce for you and you can upgrade you equipment. You have some really great solutions that work.

So I thought this might help you out. Instead of the rubbermaid reservoirs, find a packaging supply company near you and buy some liquid containers. You can get whatever size you're looking for from 5-500 gallons at prices that compare to rubbermaid on the low end of volumes and are way cheaper on the high end compared to advertised hydro reservoirs. Use a 30 gal drum instead of a rubbermaid. It'll cost you $40 instead of $20, but it is designed to take the load of the water inside. Why? One reliability. Two, you don't need to build a wood box around it to give it the strength to hold a full reservoir. You can wrap it in 2" insul board sheet (extruded) and infill with foam (great stuff) giving you a great deal more insulating value with better reliability.
anyway, just a thought I had while reading...kinda stoned... like your work.

with only 18gal, why not just use a Cooler?

I've wrapped mine in water heater blankets (fiberglass) and they work great, now I use Tekfoil (like Reflectix) and it works just as well without the itch!
