Theory on how to Clone and Flower from the Same Plant at the Same Time

I have been interested in cloning a plant while it is flowering.

Setup: Grow Tent with plant and light inside on a 12/12 flowering schedule, Light Outside on a 18 hour veg cycle

Have one branch go through a light-sealed hole in tent to the outside. The outside branch is under a 18 hour light cycle in a veg state while the plant inside of the grow tent is in a 12/12 flowering cycle.

Method: While outside branch is vegging, attach a "cloning" device which will produce roots on the branch. The cloning device is a film canister with a hole cut in the bottom and top which the branch goes through. The film canister is filled with rockwool, water and rooting hormone. This allows for root development on the branch. Once the plant is ready for harvest, the branch is cut below the film canister cloner and the rest of the plant is harvested. The clones are then used to start the next generation.

I have a question for everyone regarding this project:

1. Has anyone ever tried to clone a plant using a similar method to what I described? In another words, has anyone ever tried to get root development going before they cut the clone from the main plant?

Why would anyone do this:

There are maximun amount of plants that are allowed under medical marijuana home garden restrictions. In some states, growing under a certain max amount of plants is only considered a misdemeanor. This method would allow you to minimize your risks. For example, lets say growing 5 plants is a misdemeanor where you live. If you clone from a mother, than that leaves you only four plants to flower. Plus, there is downtime waiting for new clones to take root. This method would allow you to immediately harvest and then have clones ready to go, keeping you underneath the five plant maximum.

I have included a crude diagram of what I am thinking about. Your thoughts are welcome.. please comment!

Sounds like aerial layering except you are keeping a branch on a veg cycle for the cloning process as the rest of the plant flowers. Interesting, keep this thread going and give us some pics.

I've cloned buds into new plants on numerous occasions, they revert back to veg surprisingly fast. I would be very interested in seeing if you could keep a single branch in a vegetative state.

Hey Super, I like your idea and think it work fairly well in a "small" grow type setup. I think you could take it a step further and perhaps instead of using the air layer technique you could possibly have the branch extending "outside" the tent to be rooted in a dwc bucket or pot of soil. The same rooting would occur but I would think you would actually develop a root "system" that would allow immediate growth and no shock when cutting the branch from the existing plant as opposed to air layering then having to allow a week or so to develop a root system that could actually feed/grow the plant in question. Not my experience mind you just a thought. Nice thread, thanks. Keep us posted.:thank you:
