Low PH can cause a plant to uptake toxic levels of aluminum and other metals, it's one of the reasons I tend to run a bit of a higher PH (in soil).
But, like JTG said, radioactive fertilizers like rock phosphates are probably a very real danger. The danger is already known in tobacco, and there is talk about cannabis having the same reaction to rock phosphates. They're off my list, that's for sure.

I would not be overly concerned at levels present in nutes/potting soil or the relatively less harmfull elements present.
Outdoor guerilla grows on old industrial sites however could be a real problem in some long urbanised areas .
Paint factorys , dye works , brickworks , town gas cokeing plants , electroplaters and a dozen other industries have left a legacy of poisoned soil all over the Midlands UK and many other areas worlwide from a time when waste disposal meant tipping toxic waste on site or into the nearest river.
The ground on a local derelict gas site seems good and fertile with plenty of cover as it reverts to scrub , grew well there for a decade and the smoke was fine.
Now it turns out the reason it is still vacant in a prime location is the £25 million it will cost to remove thousands of tons of soil heavily contaminated with arsenic , cobalt , mercury and really nasty organic stuff from a simple three hectare site.
Have eaten hundreds of rabbits ferreted from here till this became known , along with the buds its a bit of a worry .

your body has adapted to dispose of these 'wastes' naturally. and yes they are waste if provided in overabundance! All living cells require pretty much the same nutrients.
