Your friend is wrong. My friend currently works for an energy company and increases like that are typical.

If you're worried about the extra money it's going to cost you. Do little things like using CFL bulbs around the house. Turn lights off in unused rooms. Turn down the fridge and freezer... Turn off computers when they're not being used, especially at night.

The utility company should be the least of your fears.

Yeah I was wondeering about that, because an increase of 50.00(dollars?) isnt really shit.

In BC, the RCMP are given full unfettered access to everybody's hydro records, without warrant or subpoena.

But as has been said, OP, you're really not running that much juice.

Not to hijack, but I'd imagine Babylon knows about 18/6 and 12/12. Wouldn't they look for those kinds of patterns more than total usage?

How do you know the RCMP have access to BC hydro records?
This is a misconception, even if they have access to your hydro records how do they know your not running a high wattage kiln or machinery for 12 /18/24 hours a day?

I know lot's of people who have BIG outbuildings used for "surfboard shaping" or "glass blowing" etc that are running 10x as many watts as the OP and BC hydro doesn't give them a second look. If your really paranoid use a flip or stagger your lights... as others have said 1200w is nothing to be concerned about.

my bill changed by $50 per month when i wasnt GROWING weed.

This is not even close to being on the radar.

assuming that u are not in a studio. Just do the standard 1000w per bedroom. still... you can do more but that s the rule for the paranoid.

i'm starting to think that paranoia over the pattern of power usage might be part of what is driving the popularity of autoflower varieties. leave your T-5s on 24 hour a day, no fluctuation. or have a long light rail in your divided grow room, & have it (the light) slide back & forth producing a 12/12 effect without having the light turn on/off. just thinking, you know...:tiphat:

I'm curious to know what type of electric meters you all have. Mine, and most residential meters I have seen, simply measure kilowatt hours used without regard to WHEN that power is used. There is a meter that measures when the power is used-just think that type would be used for factories, etc.,not for residential. Might ease your mind a bit, bro ;-} Check out your meter.

Don't know about you guys, but all 3 of my computers have 600 watt power supply unit, and I am always playing games and posting stuff to IC Mag.:nanana:

Offset the power usage.

-Switch out incadescent bulbs for low wattage CFL.
-If you have only a few towels or shirts to dry, don't use the clothes dryer instead hang them up and air dry them.
-Feel like eatting? Microwave meal or a salad? Salad, not only is it better for you, but that microwave is probably rated at 1200 watts or higher.
-Can't go without A/C? Set it to 73 instead of 70.
-If you own the place or have access to the water heater, set it to do the water heating in the early morning hours just before you plan on getting your shower and set it to turn off the rest of the day.
-Wash dishes by hand instead of the dishwasher. Many times the dishwasher doesn't use hot water from your boiler instead it uses large amounts of electricity to heat its' own water supply.
-Computers, turn them off when you are done using them. I have a habbit myself that I tend to just logout and let the computer run all night and all day.
-Electronic chargers (IE. cellphone charger) unplug it when you are done with it. Yes it will still draw current even without the cellphone attached.
- Lower the settings on your fridge and freezer. I know its nice to have "ice cold" beer, but it still tastes just as good with a cold beer.
