Are We Being Ripped Off By Nutrient Companies And Hydro Stores

Exactly. Hydro stores and the like are able to mark up prices out the ass simply because you can't find the products anywhere else and most people are more than likely very wary of ordering their grow supplies on line and having them shipped to their grow house.

It's essentially basic economics. OK, maybe not basic. One has two choices: he can either study and save money by purchasing products that weren't "officially" approved for Canna cultivation, or he can make the choice not to study and have someone else choose his inputs, hereby saving the time and the necessary effort. It all depends on what it's worth to the individual. With all this in mind, I assert that hydro stores are not ripping off their costumers, as they provide a service quantifiable in monetary terms.

I agree with that. Those stores cater to a particular market. The market is bearing what the stores are asking for their product. Therefore, the market worked. I myself wouldnt buy from them, never have, and if I go hydro someday, I will learn to brew my own nutes or fail.

As far as I'm concerned yes it is a rip off. Just get a good fertilizer such as Dyna-Gro and keep your babies green. Get their Foliage-Pro and you should be good. It provides everything they need. Even their CEO admits that the bloom formulas are not needed.

I'd go back to doing things the way you used to since it seems to have worked better. Best of Luck!

3 years ago there were 2 branches of the local hydro store in my area. They have since expanded to 4 and will soon be offering franchises! This in an area where no medical marijuana laws exist.

Cultivation is apparently a growth industry. There seems to be a big bubble of new cultivators who don't have much other gardening experience (that's me!) and are baffled by the process and bombarded with way too much information (except reguarding proper ventilation which is more obscure). So what do we do? Look online or ask the guy at the hydro store!

I was lucky as I told the guy I didn't want all the hocus pocus for my first grow because I wanted to learn the basics and get to know the plant and then later I might know if the hocus pocus was worth it and what it was doing. Actually, in all honesty, I am just too keenly aware of operation green merchant (and more recent florida hydro store surveilance busts) and HATED that I had to go to the hydro store for anything. I'd like independence from hydro stores. Either way, for nutes, I was sold MaxiGro and MaxiBloom and if I can ever complete my goddamned room, will be doing a simple soilless mix grow in promix bx (gonna add perlite).

To be honest, I also think that the seed market is full of hype.

It was nice to have a conveniently located resource for equipment.

LOL yep.

Solution. Organic recycled soil with low cost nutrients and Compost Tea made from fresh ´free` compost and EWC.

Another vote for Maxibloom, I just bought a 50# bucket of it for $220, and it will last me (16KW flowering room) for FOUR YEARS! That's $6.90 a month or something.

Don't buy anything with water in it, powders are the best way to ensure this.
