Hey guys im wondering how i would wire 120amps to this panel. My main panel holds 200amps the biggest breaker i can find that fits in is only 100amps?? any electricians out there?

If i cant find a 120, or 150 amp breaker that fits my box im going to order 3 50amp timer boxes and run 1 cord to each 50amp breaker. 1 per room. id much rather have 1 box controlling everything.

another question if i run a cord from a 100amp breaker can i split the line and run two 50amp timer boxes off it? trying to reduce the amount of wiring that needs to be done thanks ahead for the help

24 120V 1kW lights will draw about 240 Amps. Better to wire the box for 240, and you'll draw 120 A. You need to oversize the circuit 25% for safety, so you'll want a 150A 240V breaker.

It's pretty likely you'll need a new loadcenter to provide a breaker that size. You'll really need to call an electrician to install it.

24 lights on 240 at 4.5amps thats roughly 100amps. I think im just going to install 3 50amp 2pole 240vac breakers and run 3 50amp timer boxes then i can run up to 24kw with 30amps to spare

I think that is a better idea. I never understood fireing 24lights at once when you could have 4 different controllers firing 6bulbs 1minute apart. seems like a much safer way to go about it

Why not have a custom loadcenter built with staggered delays to turn the power off and on for the ballasts. You can have 1, 2, 3, or 4 ballasts at a time power off/on. Don't just buy what some manufacturer has for production units, get your loadcenter built with the options/features you want.

The CAP controller can do that, you can separate the trigger wires into 4 groups of 6 lights each.

@tactician, I've built a couple dozen custom loadcenters/controllers, I'm very happy to NOT do it myself anymore :) ...and it'll get less attention from inspectors and fire dep't because it's not a one-off custom unit.

yea we already talked to electrical company and played it off real well. no red flags here =)

I like the idea of multiple controllers for a few reasons. First, if one craps out, you still have light for your room(s) while you fix/replace. Second, I don't like the idea of maxing out a controller with these kinds of loads. If it is rated for 120a, I personally wouldn't want to run more than 100a through the thing.

what, if you dont mind sharing, did you say to the power company. Im heading back east soon and I have some ideas. I already called asking about a ceramic studio asking for discount for higher use, they said no discount but use away
