Hello! :)

I`m planing to take a trip to AMSTERDAM this summer, after some weeks, and i wanted to know, what to expect, where to go and other info! :)

We dont have a lot of money, so if you know someone who could host two funny guys, or some really cheap place where to stay really cheap than please write too! :)

So actually if someone from those people who visit IC is really nice and could offer some place where to stay, please write a pm, and we could work something out! :)

I hope that this is not the wrong thread, because i wanted to be as close to Dutch as possible! :) Peace!

I wish you the best of luck but really cheap and Amsterdam are 3 words you never ever ever use in a sentence together. Amsterdam is one of the most overprized capitals in the world. You can cut costs by getting all your food from aldi lidl or dirk van der broek (cheap supermarkets) but places to stay will be expensive, cheapest hostel (hostelworld.com) in town is 25euros a night if you can actually get a spot. You want go during the summer most has been reserved bout 2 months ago. And weed is about 5 - 17e a gram depending on coffeeshop and strain.
Not to crush all your hopes and dreams bout this trip, but i have seen people walk in town with 200 euro's for the week and they were broke the next day before lunch... I advise you to bring at least a hunderd bucks a day (depending on how much you smoke), without doing a lot of special things.

Good luck and have fun!!

Maybe you should check places further away from red light district, but if you want to stay there you can check the StayOkay hostel but it wont be cheaper than 22,5 euros per night for each person.

good luck and enjoy

Cheers

Check out Stayokay hostels, they are approx 20 euros per night per person including breakfast. I stayed in Haarlem hostel (15 min train ride from amsterdam) and it was really nice. Nice and helpfull staff and also coffeshops much better than in amsterdam ( I also prefere the atmosphere ther, away from tourists ) and cheaper. You get Albert Heijn supermarket that had anything you need for a very affordable price compared to Amsterdams VERY EXPENSIVE and crap corner shops. The hostel is, I must admit, not in the town centre, but its about 20 minute chilled out walk to town (through beautiful and interesting old town) and if you prefere, a 5 minute bus ride (I payed only 7 euros for the ticket that i used over three days.
So from my point of view, I would advise you to stay in Haarlem and go visit Amsterdam instead of living in Amsterdam as it can get very annoying. Untill I went to Haarlem I thought that Amsterdam was perfect, but it was when I actually stayed in Haarlem and went to visit Amsterdam that I realised how crap compared to Haarlem Amsterdam is

P.S
Don't get me wrong, Amsterdam is a very beautiful place and everyone should see it at least once in their life, but to me it is OVERRATED, OVERPRICED, and has too many tourists.

Just one thing if you do go to Haarlem, mind the cops!!!!!
The have a new mayor in town, and he changed local priorities for cops. They are now 100% anti cannabis, smoking in a park or some chilled place on the street will get you fined, and they will confiscate your stash. Even more worrying these basterds just what around coffeeshops for people to leave so they can bust them immediately after people have bought it.

Fuck that, it was sooo god when I went there cos I met that canadian guy and we just smoked joints all day long in the park next to the hostel and even in town a few time and at the river that runs next to it and afterwards we went to the bar and drank beer :D and when we felt like it some time later, we went and smoked some more weed :)
BUT just to clarify things, coffeshops will still exist, and the mayor situation applies only to Haarlem, RIGHT?

correct... this just applies to Haarlem and even there , coffeeshops are still operating.

mind you, what happens to policy for the rest of the country will become apparent in the next few months... the current "winning" party at the elections and the 2 parties they intend to set up coalition with are ALL against coffeeshops :(

True, but Wiegel (party elite) already spoke out to legalizing a number of softdrugs, because the situation would be better socially and economically speaking. I just hope the blind hatred of Teeven doesn't shine through in the policies because they could actually make money on cannabis, instead of spending half to 1 billion a year on rolling up homegrowers. Lets hope for Paars Plus as a parliament.

was very interested to read today that if the election was held again tomorrow, Labour would get 52% and win....it seems only around 30% are in favour of this "right wing" coalition at all..

People are more in favour of keeping the HRA. Most of those voters that would have switched to labour would have been left wing to begin with anyway. No real change instead of powerless parties, they change their vote for a spineless party. But oh well, we'll see what happens but i dont see a vvd pvv cda happening to be honest, cda lost too much to ever accept that.

Its going to be VVD, PVDA, CDA. Cause CDA doesn't want wilders and VVD doesn't want Paars plus, now all they have to decide is the program but that can still take months before everything official.

I can confirm what Gastro said, police is realy hard in Haarlem.

I was in Zaandvoort to enjoy the sea and the Yanks, on the way back to Amsterdam, there was a heavy traffic Control, every second Car had to stop, and the driver had been checked for alc and maybe drugs...(It was on the only street between Zaanvoort and Haarlem)
I had luck and could drive straight trough this trouble, without any tests...

Hi all,

i also will soon be in Amsterdam for a short visit but i probably won`t have the chance to test some weed because it will be a 1-or-2 day working trip :(
Nevertheless i plan on buying some Nirvana seeds while i`m in town, so can someone give me an address to a seedshop where i can find Nirvana seed`s, so that i won`t have to wander around much.
Coffeashops that do also sell seeds would probably be no good idea :(
