Kelvin ratings for bulbs

i picked up a 1000w lite kit that had everything ready to grow.
ballasts-mh+hps bulbs-cooltube-reflector-yo-yos
all for under $300

the bulbs supplied are some off brand bulbs
the mh has a rating of 4000k
the hps is @2000k
I knew going into the deal the bulbs were the tweety bird kind.... cheepcheepcheep
but for the price I'm in biz

So now I'm in veg and wondering if getting a bulb with a higher kelvin rating
would benefit me??
from 4000 it gets bluer as you progress to say 6000 or6500k, right.

would I get accelerated growth with then higher rated bulb.
or any difference at all.
the higher the rating the higher the price it seems,
the sunmaster-cool deluxe and the EYE HO bulbs run around 6500k and cost $150
but! I found a solar max 7200k for $79


is it worth it to upgrade to one of these bulbs? or am I doing fine with the cheepo 4000k generic bulb? if I do upgrade I can keep these for an emergency back up.
has anyone ever done a side by side grow with a 4000k and a 6500k and document the results.

Cannabis doesnt benifit much after the 6500k rating, I dont know bout 7200k.

I'd stick with the 4k, I doubt you'll see much difference with a 6.5k. While spectrum is important, it's not as important as total irradiation.

Look into the sunpulse pulse start MH bulbs. They work with E ballasts and Digi ballasts. I'm currently using a sunpulse 1k(3kelvin red/orange) and im very happy with the results. This is a great all-around bulb for flowering.

I definitely agree with freefields. I'd just stick with the 4k MH bulb, the difference between 4k & 6k would be minimal seeing as it's a HID bulb.

I personally believe that a good HPS is all you'll ever need for both cycles. Keep growing!

Just trying to give my babies the best i can.
a couple of those $150 sun master cool deluxe or EYE bulbs is more than I payed for the entire lite/ballast set up and that $$ could be spent better on other things right now.

so I guess the when i go into flowering pretty soon I'll be looking at the same dilema again.
along with the mh bulb I also got a cheepo HPS bulb with the kit.
its rating are: 2000k and 150,000 lumens.

I personally believe that a good HPS is all you'll ever need for both cycles. Keep growing!

Hey man I know you didn't ask me but I got a GrowBright bulb from http://www.htgsupply.com/productsubcategories.asp?categoryID=4. I don't know how they compare to Sunmaster, Agromax, Hortilux etc... But I figure they are much better than the stock bulb. Plus they are much cheaper and it seems your not wanting to sink a lot of money into bulbs.

And HTG is a good place. Great customer service and super fast shipping.

Anyway it's just a thought.

I'll just keep the bulb I'm using now, its definitely doing the job.
thats a good price from what Ive seen for a 6500k mh bulb

Hey i bought a light setup like yours, i got it from illumalights on ebay. its a 400w setup with the same color temps as your bulbs!

if its from the powerking shop, then thats the one.
they have great deals.
I'm extremely happy with what I got form them and you can't beat the rpice with a stick
did you get the mh-hps set upor just the hps?
