our first grow! so excited

ok so its been a STRESSFUL few days! here is what happened.

we moved the plants to the tent after testing the tent a few times. the day we move them the light doesnt turn on! this is what the light does. we plugged it in for a few min and realized the hps bulb wasnt in, the MH was. so we switched it real quick and it wouldnt turn on. it flickered and went out. then the MH wouldnt turn on. so they were in the dark for around 60 hours! maybe my harvest is fucked, idk, we will see. went over there two nights ago and the MH worked and the hps didnt. we left the mh in for now cuz they need light. the hps was a brand new bulb so idk what happened. hopefully i can return it.

another problem is the heat!!! its 81 degrees without the light going. its hot here in san jose, ca. so i took my friends moms portable ac unit for a few days until i can figure out what to do. right now its 78 degrees and everything is good. jsut need to get a new bulb.

what do u guys think of the heat problem. what should i do? i really dont wanna run a ac the entire time. the bill will go up a lot. help please??

also after i originally wanted to do 36 hours of darkness when i first switched to 12/12. after 36 this is what they looked like. is this a deficiency (nitrogen maybe)? if so what one. it hasnt gotten any worse. if anything it has gotten better. il have to check tonight when i go see them. help would be great. thanks!

no problem man this is not nitrogen deficien. is normal only new grow, like the small leaves coming out and need someday for change in good green color , don't worry be good like the big one leaves

yea i did that. that was a older pic. but regardless its just so hot here right now! it was 81 without any light running and the fans going...is ac really my only option?

ok went over there last night and took some more pic. the temp was 76 degrees. running an ac. the light is extremely cool. putting off very little heat set up this way. definitely going to lower the light tonight

Great pics sruel you are doing fantastic! The yellowing of the leaves in the middle like that is just the plant's way of getting itself ready from going from vegging to flowering. When you see that happen it means the girls are going to start making pistils REAL SOON so you are almost to the good part. I can't wait to watch them fill out oh yeah!

ok awesome! i was a little worried when i saw that a few days back. but last night they looked healthy so i kind of began to think it was cuz they were begining to bud. im so excited. hope all this time and money pays off! i just want some decent stuff to rip my volcano with haha

thanks! i cant wait to go see them today! its so addicting...i simply started off with a couple in that small closet and before i even got to harvest them i went to get a tent!

i have a question for down the line during flower. i have read some threads on here of how to give them light the last week

some people say to give them 10hours light and 14 hours dark (correct me if im wrong) for the last week. says that will give them a little more crystals and just thrive a little more. just looking for some more input on that.

ok so i our digital ballast ended up being broken for the hps 400. so since i needed a new light i decided to upgrade a bit and get a 600 hps light with magnetic ballast. here is a pic of last night once we got it all hung up. temp stays at a steady 75 degrees

oh another thing is, my roommate went to try and fix the old ballast friday morning and he forgot to plug it back into the timer. so when we went there sunday we realized they had no light. is this going to herm them?

Pot plants are pretty damn tough, I don't think they will hermie. They just might be a little pissed off for a couple days, but like i said they're tough.

Some people get all crazy with stuff, trying to mimic nature and all kinds of bs. My advice would be to keep it simple, just run 12/12 since it is your first grow. Maybe after you get a couple harvests under your belt, start playing with that kind of stuff, see if you can make improvements. There is no hard scientific evidence that changing your light cycle the last week will help, most of us just run 12/12 all the way through.

I believe the theory behind it is if you stress your plants to a certain point, not to much, the last week, they will produce more crystal. That does work, and there is probably more than one way to accomplish it. Certain ripening products work on that premise.

As far as heat goes, if you live in cali, you pretty much learn to deal with it and grow around it. We have started using commercial mini split ac's down here, since it gets over 100 in the summer time. As far as Im concerned AC is the only way. When you start thinking about what it costs to run it, just think about the money your going to save on bud. Potassium Silicate also helps a ton with heat stress, i wouldn't grow without it. Have to be careful with it though, as it can raise your ph.

Your plants look very nice, your doing a great job, cant wait to see the buds.

Ok i have been away for 3 weeks....vegas, camping, etc. havent had time to post pics. let me tell u they look AMAZING! i am really satisfied so far! but its not over yet! i am going to try to go back to my tent tonight and get some good quality shots. its hard to get a good shot tho. im using my camera on my droid and the hps light messes it all up. probably have 3 weeks left tho. i should flush on with 2 weeks left correct? also should i change the light cycle in the last week?
