Need Advice - Should i start over???

hello all,

i have been plagued by some form of gnat or aphid for over 2 months now. no matter what i do, they keep coming back. I do not know how the hell they keep coming unless they are regenerating themselves in my areas. i have some healthy newly rooted clones of the only & last connoisseur genetic strain i have left. i treasure & love this specimen more than my g/f. but, my perpetual set-up is just not giving me the potential yields i used to get. i am about fed up & dunnno what else to do but just remove the clones, kill everything else & just bleach & tear the areas down. i will relocate the clones to another zip code whilst cleansing the current enviro.

the insects look just like fungus gnats. they are stupid & easy to kill with a finger or hand smack. i rarely see tiny black specks that hop as well. about 2 months ago, i saw thousands of tiny white crawlers in a harvested pot's medium & immediately threw it in the garbage & disinfected the area. have not seen the white tiny things since, but i still have these flyin gnats everywhere. i am finding that they are just killing my plants that are in mid veg to late flower & harvest. so, essentially, they are doing the most damage at the most impt times. so, im thinking, why the heck bother anymore if this is the yields im getting. i used to get a zip per plant, now im getting half that. using the same wattage, space, & medium etc. this is a not for profit venture, just medicine. but, the risk involved is starting to outweigh the results, no pun intended. the plants have schlerosis & necrotic patches, rusted marks & finally the leaves fall off. essentially, by harvest time, there is not a single large fan leaf left. i dont know how the plant even produced as much as it did.....

any ideas or suggestions guys??? im really at my wits end.....the final product is still excellent & ppotent, & tasty, theres just not as much of it b/c of the infestation. is it true i have to just kill all & start over?? how do i know it won;t just happen again?? if i were to take each plant, completely wash off all the soil remnants & rinse the roots & place it into a fresh pot of FFOF/LW & vermiculite that i microwave for 10 mins, will this help?? i have done this once before without killing the plant, but it was shaky for a while & will stunt the growth like crazy anyhow.....

its like this is a planned attack on us OG'ers. the govt has spread thee damn gnats or aphids or whatever to piss us all off & have less money, so we have to find real jobs & pay taxes. thats my theory hahaha.....if they could 1099 us farmers, they would have no issue & actually help us, i bet. anyhow, i digress. pleaaaaase help me. thanks & sorry for rambling, im just so heartbroken & disenchanted rite now, i needed to vent. hope you all are in better spirits & better environments than I. God bless. Mata Flo

funny you mention that... I got fungus gnats with my miracle grow organic choice soil so I stopped using it. Been strictly on Fox Farm Planting Mix (red bag) and after this newest batch I got three kinds of different bug infestation. I dunno if it came in on a new cut or in the dirt, but it sux.

like you said, the buds still coming out good but probably would be better yield without these bugs

Are people seeing bugs in the bags, or is it one of those situations where you use the soil and then a couple days later gnats just start appearing out of nowhere?

thanx guys, i have not been able to find DE anywhere around me. i would pay 1000 bux for some locally. i dont ship or order stuff inline. i have tried nicotinic acid dunks, habanero pepper flake tinctures, evrything imaginable; with zero luck.

the way i noticed it was the FF bag of soil was bug free, i think gnats just showed up after being planted. i have a crack under my main door that, even with a rubber strip drilled across the bottom, will alow some small insects inside. so, i try to cover it with a towel during the night. but, besides opening the door or patio door, thats the only way they could enter. i feel they are reproducing inside my house continually since i saw the 1st one pop up about 6 months ago. for 1.5 yrs, never had any issues. now, since 6 mos, it has been just non stop. thats why im considering to just shut down everything & remove every drop of dirt inside my house to the dumpster. clean throughly 4-5x over a month, & try again.

also, i always microwave my soil before using it. i make my mixture of whatever, microwave it for 2 mins. then i water it, mix & wait to dry & microwave it again. Then, i use it. so, i doubt any bugs could survive the microwave. they are def coming in from outside. I have a dog, so his butthole always has a couple gnats swarming around it outside, its so easy for him to bring bugs into my house. there must be some way to deter them from the area. i wish a supersonic sound or some type of repellent or soooomething was available. whoever invents the gnat deterrent will be a billionaire. i give my left pinky to rid the entire world of fricken gnats & root aphids or any aphid. i wish all plant-hurting bugs would instantly die, now!!!!

i thought soil bags were nuked for bugs.... if you have aphids... you need to look in the infirmary there tons of info on them....

have you tried mosquito dunks, crumbled in the top of your media?
i was gonna suggest this as well, i've been told they will
completely eradicate a severe fungus gnat infestation,
which sounds like your problem.

i believe they work by using some form of bacteria that attacks
the larval stage of the mosquito and as it happens, the larval
stage of these pesky gnats as well.

btw, if you have a less severe infestation you can just use
sticky fly trap tape to get rid of them, what this does is
capture the adults before they lay the eggs, thereby interrupting
the life cycle, goodbye gnats. (this can take a couple of
weeks for all the existing larvae in the soil to become winged.)

...oh yeah, one more thing, lol, here's a link where you can
get yourself some mosquito dunks.
