What's new

fogging with Azamax or Azatrol

For spider mite profylaxis, I'm planning to do a weekly fogging of Azamax during the first 4 weeks of flower using an RL Flowmaster Atomist fogger.

I'm guessing my best time to do it would be an hour or so before lights on, but perhaps there's another suggestion?

Assuming I'll use the lowest setting - 1.5 GPH of fog (I assume it's a pretty powerful machine for a room with 4Kw /64 sq ft of cannopy) How much time would you suggest I spend doing the application? Perhaps 10 or 15 minutes? more? less? (assuming I have not yet seen an attack, or have just started to see a few speckles/mites)

If you are not using an actual greenhouse or other massive space I would recommend getting the portable fogger from national garden wholesale or something similar. It's got a 2 gallon tank and goes over your shoulder on a strap, then there is a flexible hose that allows you to direct the spray like a normal compressed air sprayer. I've gotten way better results being able to direct the flow and cover the plants than I get when I just try to fog the room. Especially if you are using something with a low toxicity like azamax or azatrol, the mites basically need to be drenched in it to kill them.

Since you will be fogging rather than spraying I highly recommend a full-face respirator to avoid getting it in your mouth and eyes.

In terms of usage rates, in a room that 15 x 15 with 12 large plants in it I would use 2 - 3 gallons of spray.

good Luck! gwg

I would just suggest a drench or to apply in the solution. I have used azamax before and it rocked. I used lady bugs before that and a few other foliar tricks with no success.

Thanks GWG. I think the Atomist is portable enough - it has about 2 or 3 gallons and a hose to target plants individually. My room is somewhat smaller and so I'll try the lower end of your suggestion.

Am I on the right track to do it an hour or so before lights on? or is there a better time?

That timing sounds about right, I don't have enclosed hoods so I have to either remove the bulbs or wash them an hour or so after application.

Through research, I was under the impression that watering with 1ml/gal of azamax at a pH of 6.0-6.5.... was the best way to keep mites and pests at bay.

No need to foliar, especially after week 2 of flower.... (Unless your strain doesn't show buds for a few more weeks.) that's just nasty. :D

Yeah, feed it to the plants in veg, that's what I'm told.
It'll be absorbed into the plant tissues and the mites won't want to eat it. That's what I'm told, that's what I do, and I don't have bugs.
