So i am looking at purchasing a 4pc 18volt kit that has a sawzall, drill, circular saw and flashlight. Porter cable and ryobi both offer the exact same thing with the exact same price. Any input on which one is better?

I have had real good luck with DeWalt. I have had a similar set for many years and it has held up well. Probably a little pricier but worth the bucks if you will be using them a lot. If light use then those others should hold up fine. I tend to abuse my tools and these have held up great.

Porter Cable

My dad has had a rechargable porter cable drill for 10+ years and only had to replace the batteries a couple of times.

I personally have used both, and they are both good buys. I dropped one of the ryobe saws from at least 35 feet up in the air in a cherry picker, and I was sure it was done. After collecting the battery, and snapping it back in place, the thing was back in working order, and lasted well over a thousand cuts after that(I was installing cedar shake instead of siding on a rather large home)

Spend some more cash and get the Milwaukee set, it will last forever and is top quality.

Makita is cool too, get which ever one is on sale.

porter cable has better quality stuff, ryobi is cheeper.
Ive bought both and it depends on what you plan on doing with them and what type of tool your getting?
I'm self employe and depend on my tools.
about ten yrs ago I had a dewalt(won't buy any more of their stuff) 18v screw gun and when the battery finally died I went to get another one and it was like $75-$80 bucks!!
they had a ryobi 18v screw gun with case and charger for $90
replacement batteries were round $42 for a two pak, prices went up.

for screws guns and other cordless tools I tend to go with ryobi,
for the other I would recommend
porter cable.
I had a couple porter cable circular saws and they were top notch,
great feature on them also.
I'm pretty much a Bosch man these days.

whatever you do on your cordless decision, check to see what your going to pay for batteries .

I won't buy DeWalt anymore,
I dropped it and messed up the metal baseplate on the bottom of the saw, I paid $70 for the saw and they wanted $45 for the part so when I went to replace the battery on it and they they me up on that like I was made of $$$(see above) I decided Ryobi whas a much better deal for me

Not a direct answer to your question but if it were me and I wanted to buy
a corless drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw (sawzall) and flashlight only once that will last a lifetime
I would buy the following:
(Actually I do own these as well as a bunch of box store rubbish).

Cordless drill/driver ==> Panasonic
Corded Circular saw ==> Porter Cable or Milwaukee
Corded Reciprocating saw ==> Milwaukee Sawzall
Flashlight ==> Maglite 4-D cell LED

Peace,

Thanks for all the help everyone. I went ahead and bought the Porter cable four pc set for only 129.. I forgot to mention in my first post that this would only be for light use. I already have a heavy dudty corded worm drive saw, drill and a sawzall. This set is just more for convenience factor.
