Sinx's PC - 58 Watts of Fail

Hey everybody thanks for looking at yet another grow thread... you know you love em.

Ok lemme start out by introducing myself. I originally drooled all over my keyboard at OG. Then one day I asked about seeds and got a very negative response from the community, understandable. From then on I never posted there again after making such a fool of myself.

So I got some bagseeds and attempted to grow in a speaker. It went pretty well and had a nice looking plant but I was forced to abort the grow before flowering.

Now I have lots of free time and have learned a lot more about cannabis cultivation, so I gave it another go.

Now since I cannot buy seeds (paranoid... and no I'm not high) , I just used some bagseed.

I started with 4 plants. I'm now down to one that is confirmed female and at this moment its been about 1 week of flowering.

I vegged it for about 2 weeks then switched to 12/12. Took quite a while to show sex but the males showed first. Then one day about a week of 12/12 all 3 males showed themselves. One even had a decent sized cola of nuts haha. The female showed about 4 days later. Overall i'm happy I got at least 1 out of the bunch.

I am using a standard sized ATX PC case, stripped down and light traps and exaust fan added. Using 2x CFL - 45w and a 13w.

Here are some pics of a few days after showing sex:

So a week later then we got this:
Here is one with the lights

And here is one with more of the case visible - notice the soda can it is being used to produce C02:

Here are 3 more:

I have been getting overly excited and wondering why I'm not seeing much progress... WELL ITS ONLY BEEN A WEEK is why. So I figured I would just move my journal here to get more views and maybe have a nice chat while I wait.

I have to work with what I have. I am unemployed right now and money is an issue. But I do have things to help. I got nutrients for her, 2 more CFLs (13w) but no sockets for them yet. I also have a few more bagseeds of a different variety.

So far I only had 1 real issue of N def. Killed off the lower foliage before I even realized what was happening. But as you can see she did recover nicely... minus the lower leaves.

So what do you guys think?

Looking good man.

At Wal-Mart you can find these "socket splitters". I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but that's what they are, and they are less than a dollar. You simply screw it into your socket, and it shaped like a "Y" and transforms the single socket into two.

I'd also suggest when you have the money, to get another 42 watt.

Don't worry too much about the lower leaves... The first sets of leaves always are the first to yellow and fall off, especially when flowering is induced.

The key to getting dense buds with CFLs is to keep them within two inches of the folliage/buds at all time. This will require constant adjustment, but will pay off greatly in the end.

Since you have limited space and the plant will obviously grow taller, I'd highly recommend you research and make use of extensive LST and Supercropping. You will be able to control your plants height and that way the lower buds will recieve as much light as the main colas.

Also, if this is your first grow, please do not harvest until it is done, and experienced members here verify it. Many first time growers are doing great and have very promising looking plants, and then harvest. The last two weeks are the most important. That is when the calyxs swell and the buds put on all their weight.

One thing that first time growers frequently don't realize, is that when buds dry, they shrink drastically. So what might look like a decent sized but at week 5/6 of flowering, will not dry out to one.

As of now, your plant looks very healthy and promising, and you obviously have the desire to learn more and improve otherwise you wouldn't have joined. I will try to help as much as I can, and I'm sure other members here will do the same.

Good luck.
Peace :rasta:

Yup. Currently the lights are about 3 inches from the top. It may be hard to believe but the 13w gets MUCH hotter than the 45w, but the exhaust fan is positioned so it pulls the heat off the lights, and sucks in air from the bottom front. And yes im def gonna have to LST her. I mean its only 1 week of flowering and its right to the lights now with no stand.

You know I actually just read your response in another thread. I thought I better put this here instead of a journal nobody looks at to help with the temptation lol.

Thanks for the quick response. :)

Back before the days of OG and the interwebs, how you did it is how we did it

the value of the experience, coupled with the passion is what its all about.

there is no fail or succeed now that your a GROWER, just the opportunity to take what you learn from one grow and carry it on to the next, because no matter how well it grows your still growing

:) and all things considered .. excellent job

Ok so its been a little bit longer.

So far one noticeable thing is that it no longer smells citrusey (guess thats how you spell it). Just smells kinda sweet. But if you touch the buds and smell, its can only be described as a 'sharp' citrus smell. It smells like a freshly cut lemon taste... really nice.

The bud are getting much better looking. More akin to what I see others growing here (yay!).

Ok and i have to admit it, i have been plucking the lower buds off for a buzz. the lowest buds gave no buzz to speak of, but one above where the staggered nodes started was jam packed full of resin and very sticky. gave a very nice high.

I know its not right to pull buds off of it but im just so desperate for smoke. Anyway I'll borrow my buddys camera and put a few pic's up soon.

So for next time (the "For Real" grow) im going to veg longer and feed them sooner. I am also grabbing a 42W CFL soonish for the new grow. So that will be 87W of CFL (45W + 42W) and hopefully i can get 3 of 10 female this time. I may try to reveg this plant but from what im seeing from it right now it may not be worth it, although it could look the way it does just from newbie error and over ferting it.

Other changes include fixing my current case up better or building a small cab. Got enough 1 gal pots for 5 plants, although only 2 will fit in my current case. And i need to get a screen for ScrOG.

Oh ya i almost forgot, that 13w CFL i added burnt out already. After only 3 days, woke up to a nasty 'electrical' smell like ozone and it was dead. It was an old CFL anyway. i replaced it with a different type of 13watt, it looks like a regular bulb but its a florescent.

Thanks for reading. Will update again soonish.

Hey guys! Ok so my last try didn't go well. Ended with about 2 bowls of bud, it was decent tho but I pretty much killed the plant by over ferting. Turned out to be pretty decent bud with a strong long lasting high.

So this time I started with 10 seeds, 5 same as last time and 5 from a really good sack. Out of 10 only 5 sprouted and I have been vegging for about 3 weeks now. I just added in another 42 watt CFL and had to add a fan blowing across them to keep the ballast temps down due to the way they are mounted.

Now I had some PH issues starting off but I got them under control it seems.

They are short from LST :) And I moved them down from the lights a bit, they are about 4 inches from the lights right now.

Group 1: This is the new strain added from the great sack -o- weed. Only 2 sprouted.

Group 2: This is same as last try, 3 of these sprouted

Here is the group shot:

Now i have a total of 87 Watts of CFL. I vegged under 18/6 (but only 45W of CFL) and they really seemed to love it. I flipped to 12/12 last night, they are getting too crowded in the containers. I'm expecting 2 females but more will be a bonus, hopefully i get 4 females hehe but very unlikely. The 2 largest plants i'm expecting to be male, although I hope not because the secondary growth is really exploding.

So what do you guys think of it so far?
