quick cloning question

I recently changed my cloning method from plain water cloning(100% success) to cloning in rockwool in 3inch net pot filled with clay balls. Tho i'm having great results every so often a clone will just fall over day after it was cut. These genarally wont get roots and just die...is there a reason for this? all the clones are taken same time prepared same way ect just the odd one falls over :/

I've done some acidental experiments in my ez cloner "clone". I unplugged the pump to look for roots and forgot to turn it back on. In about 2 hours every clone was bent over and looked dead! Plugged back in and 2 hours later, all looked perfect.

Sooo...I would say a clone that bends over within a day is having trouble pulling water through it's stem. I had the same issue a couple times so far with rockwool cubes. Not sure what you can do. A bit of rooting gel seems to help keep the stem wet so maybe try that.

i use clonex gel ^^ so if its water not getting sucked in is that because air got in the cut? maybe i took too long cutting and preping?

Sometimes when I start hardening them off they will fall over.I just baby them for a while and they allways stand back up and do well for me.

they tend to fall when air gets up the stem, or when they lose too much moisture/dry out

once they fall they will take longer to root if and when they do straighten up, and will be slow starters

i found through a lot of trial and error the cause was an air bubble from the original cut,
i now cut my clones a node longer than i want and put them strait into water with some clone gel mixed in,
i then cut my clone in the mixed water and leave to soak for 10minutes
i then dip in the gel and into pre-soaked rockwool or coco i then cut back all foliage

in the summer months when my veg cab has high heat low humidity i will use a dome but when temps are stable and humidity is over 45% i find a dome is not needed

keep the medium moist but not saturated

i do the same except for the cut under water and i use plain water to soak them in.i also cut the foliage while soaking ^^

So i'm guessing the cut under water will help eliminate this problem thankyou all

The cut underwater eliminates the air-bubble going up the center of the stem, i have found it to be more of a problem with hard/woody stems and hollow stems
