What's new

How I am watering my plants now on.

It seems the soil drops out or mostly my foolish impatient nature spills a little from the top! Found a nice grill that fits over the toilet, it's just a metal grate. A nice place for them to drip and particles flush down.

My shower drain is clogged again, not to bad but it really needs fixed. Seems the plunger works the best but we liked our Amish bombs?

:ying:

There might still be times I test the run off, seems it's all proposed!

I water my plants using submersion:

I fill a small basin (just large enough for the entire pot to be submerged in it) with my feeding mix. I put each plant in, submerging the soil, roots and bottom of the plant completely underwater. I wait for the bubbles to stop, then I pull it out and put it into a large rubber made type storage container and allow it to drain before putting it back in the grow chamber. While I wait for one plant to stop bubbling, I do an inspection and grooming of the next plant waiting for a splash.

Submersion ensures that the entire grow medium is equally saturated with the feeding mix and that any pockets within the soil are exchanged. Gases trapped within the soil are displaced by the water. When the water drains, the suction pulls fresh air down into the soil.

At the moment I'm using some brand of "organic" gardening soil with about 25-35% perlite mixed into it (and lime and espoma biotone)
