Venting Lights 4x600

I told my buddy to put the inline fan outside the room pushing through the hoods and then out the room. No filter, just pushing from outside so that there's positive pressure inside the hoods. Is this good advice?

Sucking air through the hoods is a much more effective method. What you suggested to your friend is pushing the air past the lights. Honestly, what you said would work, but most experienced people setup by sucking. Cooling the hoods from air outside the room works (hopefully) with little smell. You should check out sealed room designs, there is a lot to understand. Good Luck!

Hey man,
I'm just making one doing both blowing and sucking.
The lamps are in four sets of two x 600w.
Each set has a 150mm (six inch) duct coming from an intake manifold. The duct connects to a 150mm bathroom fan blowing directly into the first fixture. That fixture is ducted to the second fixture. The second fixture connects to an exhaust manifold by way of more ducting.
The exhaust manifold has a 300mm (12 inch) high output Ruck sucking out the air from all 4 sets of lamps.

i think your spot on with blowing the warm air out away from the fan, if you use it for pulling air past the lights then out past your fan, all the heat from the lights will reduce the life of the fan...

Does it really matter? Reduced fan life, I mean. Fans cost, what, ~$200? That's about a half ounce. It's not like we're growing onions or potatoes. :)

FWIW, I have 4x600HPS' cooled by a Vortex600 sucking the air through. The fan has been running 24/7 for the last 6 years.

The reason I suggested pushing air is so that no smell goes through the lights. But your saying it's better to pull air and use a filter and that's better? Is that just for fan efficiency?

I pull air through the reflectors, because the setup allows for more plants in the room. Odor control is handled with an 03 generator that meets the exhausted air. Not knowing the specifics of your setup, it's difficult to comment in detail.
