SEEDS!!!

Hey everyone,

I am doing a seed run on my purple jem! My girl has another 2 weeks at least left till cut, but I found some seeds fully matured in the little "pods" at the bottom of her! I was just trying to get everyone's input on what to do witht them b4 planting! Or can you just go right ahead and plant them??? Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

( Sorry if this is in the wrong section! )

Do you mean if you need to do anything to the seeds before you plant them?, if so, no, you need to let them fully dry though, once they had a week or so in the air they will be good to go, some seeds need a longer cure but generally they should be good to go as soon as dry.

^^ That

Make sure they dry well.
Some people like to "fridge" them for a few weeks to simulate winter. Some say this increases germination rate, some say it does jack shit. As with everything the opinions regarding fridging are split.

like everybody said if you plan on storing these you need to dry them. But purple jems are an auto so if you were planning on doing another run outdoors or whatever you can plant them right away but germ % won't be as high as if they were properly dried out, but some/most will germ right out of the pod ime.

I harvested some seeds last year that I made myself. They had a pretty bad germ rate around 2 weeks after harvest.

Then I germed some again this spring and the rate was almost at 100%.

This year I might do a heavily seeded plot of Nugg-it outdoors and see how time and perhaps cold affects the seeds.

I also harvested some Pehkuruder seeds a couple of weeks ago - and I will germ some of them now and report back here. If you're reading this around 4-5 days from now and see no update from me then please send me a pm to remind me rofl!

I would try just germing a few seeds at first and seeing how they do. In the mean time have your other ones drying out really well. By the time you find out your germ percent the others will be ready to go no matter what..

BlackOne - Thanks so much for the test germ data! I don't have enuf Pehkuruder to be able to afford to mess it up.

Also, I've crossed Pehkuruder with WW and with Blue Mystic/Ice & have beans drying now, so of course, I'm very anxious to know when I can safely plant them...

Good linx, good thread, good thinking, gentlemen!

I say just let em' sit for 4wks...that way you know they are completly dry and will most def. have a better germ rate! JMO>>>

Did you pollinate with a male or a hermie? just curious. I'm planning on doing a seed run of some sour 60 but i'm going to use some colloidal silver to try to get a big cache of femmed seeds.

CS treated plants are not technically hermi's, they are female plants with male parts; there are no genetic modifications or inherited traits. Hermi plants have a chance of creating either female or hermi plants, the offspring of CS treated plants will remain the same sex as their parent(s).

Ok, I got that part about using CS...<which i'm gonna do when I buy the equipt.....my question is about hermi's...dont know if sex in the beginning makes a difference, but I have a Sour60 male @ day 28... 2 days ago it started to show white hairs!! it is my only sour60 male and I wanted to do a big seed run with him<like pollinate all the lower branches....can I use this pollen still and have female seeds or worse, hermi seeds???

Very interesting...do you have any good links on the topic? I prefer to research everything in depth before I take my first step.

CS will make a genetic copy of the parent if it is self-pollinated, it will remain the sex of the parent as well. If you were to use a male to create selfed seeds the resulting seeds will be male as their is no female information. Their is no reason to self a male as you only end up with more males, this is only 'needed' for breeding; though you could also breed by cross-pollinating another female with CS treated females (the result will be female seeds with multiple parents).

It sounds like you have a hermi, I would not pollinate with that as you are likely to pass on the hermi trait which could ruin your gene pool. If you pollinate with a male that turns hermi than your resulting offspring will have a chance of being male, female, and/or hermi as it has the genetic information of each.

that's what I thought!!!! thanks guys for the input....well I guess i'm gonna toss it....I have another sour60 male, but it's 18days old....pollen won't be ready for another week, but may work out for me to pollinate my sour60 female which is 29 days old today..I usually pollinate @ wk 4-5
