re-boot for the next gen

gimme a beat

mass produced miniature ovens
designed operating temperatures 375-450 F
available from any Walmart starting at $10

bioionic-y.jpg

pyrex test tube installed into curling iron, "flour paste" to seal around hole
another thin glass tube acts as the pipe, ss pot scrubbe r to keep the herb in 3" at one end that gets inserted in the test tube after it's hot

i'm still learning the right way of using this (never vaped), so feel free to correct me about anyth ing really, but specifically about where the herb should be placed in this configuration

if you make this yourself:
toxic chemicals are being outgassed by the heating element and electroni cs of any curling iron, instant-on ceramic heating elements probably outgas really bad stuff, but none of it's in the vapor path here. Still, mitigate your exposure by maintaining a go od flour paste seal around the end. Do not expect the seal to last more than five or six sessions, but it should take no more than a couple of minutes to whip up and apply a new one.

newbie note: pre-burn the Stainless Steel pot scrubber, just to red hot, and don't use fake plated brass scrubbers from wallyworld

Sally Beauty has an intelligent max heat ceramic curling iron for $35, it says it has better temperature holding

Edit: here's what it looks like now a few days later...

and i got my vaping temps sorted out, no harsh vapor now, instead of full up i leave it for a while on second from lowest, then bump up to the middle setting for several minutes at a time. i'm still learning, i don't get as medicated and i seem to use more overall.

hi-temp gasket maker would probably outgas vapors i don't want, but maybe an alumina (ceramic) washer...?

i posted this same thread on cannabis.com and fuckcombustion.com and they were deleted out of hand

i hope this is the board for this idea, it's always caught my attention for stuff that's a bit too out there for other places, but i'll also try posting on Instructibles.com

nice how folks are so harsh huh?
guess everyones a drug dealer and has mad bling to buy benzo's .... not sure what i just said there....

i wanna say 3 things,
3 more things:
besides the strange thing i just said ...(the RKS i have right now scrambles me up a bit, and is prolly the reason for my current, albeit transient fixation on this thread).

first: to the haters, here and on other sites...fuck em: feed em fishheads. ganja doesn't always burn out evil meditations. some say for that "mus be a rightous man plant it"

second: considering all the "creative devices" i have made/seen over my years in the cannabis culture i think there should be a MAD SCIENTIST forum for things of this sort. there could be a goddam sticky for all the DIY vape designs over the last 20 years (longer than that actually...anyone in here remember the "tilt pipe" from the 70's?)

third: how do you smoke that thing? vape or whatever...looks like some poor bastard could space out and burn the holy jeezus out of their lips.
hot iron+glass tube+herb my favorite thing about vaporizers, hey wheres that ball of bubble?

and it has also just occurred to me that if you have a nice sourdough for the thermal gasket, they would do nicely at 350 for 20 minutes or so.

and 10 bucks? IF YOUR RICH!!
if you goto a few garage sales i bet you could make a thread titlted vaporizer for under 2 bucks!!!
then see the haters come out :)
"mus be a weakheart man plant it"...

Ive seen this type of "inventive" shit before and Im willing to bet someone has a crank/meth problem
years of experience shows through, but been clean a long while s'far as that goes, i watched myself in the youtube videos i posted, and you see a bit of a nervous twitch, but it's jes me gettin old - fuck i look old, act old,

hehe

ps: to show i have a sense of humor about myself look at my frankenstein grow cab - it's meant to say, "don't make my same mistakes,"
but this ones just supposed to say, "think about what you want in a vape, and hey look over here, mass produced already, and built for the same temperatures we want?" nothing inventive here, just looked around for what i needed, pulled it off the chick's shelf.

I'd like to encourage folks to think past the packaging and see this for what it can be, off-the-shelf parts we can use - look inside the vapolution, at least the first model, it had a test tube with a piece of nichrome wire wrapped around it, connected to a potentiometer and an indicator light...this has gotta be better than that "for the money"

heating coil
temp sensor
adjustment

yesterday i cut my curling iron in half and stuffed the furnace into a blue cabo wabo bottle, with the control handle hanging remotely on the electrical cord - looks nicer than the curling iron now

Ghetto Vape 2.0 - homemade vaporizer from curling iron in tequila bottle

Ghetto Vape 2.0 - homemade vaporizer from curling iron in tequila bottle

stuck it into something more user friendly...

my point folks, is that curling irons are made for exactly vaping temps, so IF you're gonna make a ghetto vape, don't use a lightbulb, use a curling iron (use the glass on glass vapor path, and seal up the heating element of course).
works with tiny pinches or big bowlfulls - it's the vapor path people should be thinking about if this appears too "weird"

look at the vapor path of the vapolution or the bud toaster - same thing (well this is nothing like the bud toaster, but this is exactly the same thing as the vapolution, not that i'd want to say theirs is no good or anything, it's just simple).

Edit: added pictures at the top of the thread to show a new wood holder i made - thats the final look and feel, the one painted black.
