A few friends and I were discussing one of the buddies only choices of soil.
Our opinions were different which one would be best for vegging so I figured I'll get some input for him.

Please comment below why YOU would use WHICH SOIL.

Oh and for your convenience I added a poll as well.

Your input and expertise are appreciated!

Make your own damnit! :)

1/3 peatmoss, 1/3 mushroom compost, 1/3 perlite

Couldn't be simpler, can be found anywhere, drains well, holds moisture well, has some nutrients for the seedling stage. Follow up with a WEAK mix of your favorite all purpose fertilizer (I use A/N Sensi A/B) and watch them grow. I don't get the very best plants...but it's more than acceptable.

Organic and add some extra perlite to it

Yeah the organic mix with neem should work well for vegging nice green plants. You may also want to check on the lime content. The price is fantastic, I wonder how their ammendment list stacks up....
I just buy big ass blocks of coco and ammend however I need want or feel but for that price....

Thanks all for your replies!

I'll call my buddy and ask him for the ammendment list.

Edit: He is sending me pictures now.

Wow that was QUICK!

He's in a wheelchair and has a hard time typing so he sent pictures of a bag instead:

Those are unacceptable choices. Sorry. I am recommending Roots Organics 707 Mix and nothing else. Even unamended it is still better.

Those are the only choices he has.

If you don't mind elaborating...what makes the ones I listed for him unacceptable?

i make my own, 50% organic mix, 25% 5in1 blood and bone ferts, 25% perlite/vermiculite, and a dash of iron sulphate to bring its pH down a little under 7. in the end if it's got a good organic soil mix that will hold water and is sterile, has good natural ferts (if you're wanting ferts in the soil) and has a good draining/aerating agent like perlite, you're laughing mate!

i make my own, ........

Thank you and the others but please remember my friend is disabled, he sits in a wheel chair and has to write/type with his mouth (yes he really does) so mixing stuff on his own won't work....

I won't be able to help him right now, when I am back to where he is his soil will have to be there waiting, stuff takes 6 weeks to get to that location.

shit i didn't realise that sorry. i'd just always go with the most expensive brand (within reason) of organic mix as they're almost always the best. anyway i hope you find what you're after :D

I picked the growers mix as well, out of those choices it's the only one that doesn't say it includes 3-4 months of time release ferts. If those happen to be the WRONG ferts, or too strong, there isn't much that can be done. An underfed medium can be easily added to with weak hydro nutes (AN Sensi as mentioned above) to bring things back to normal.
