Never busted and cant be now, but maybe i should have voted "snitch" because i know one person who was snitched on, he deserved it. he stole grow equipment and clones (guess from who!), then called me crying asking what he should do. I said, get a good lawyer.

Im kinda amazed that so many got caught for other things and then got caught, would any of you mind elaborating?
I have seen it many times. Dealer moves into a new neighborhood, traffic is obvious every day, is it the Avon lady? I wanted to go tell the last guy, but he was obviously stupid, and to tell him, he just would have squeeled on me.

My brother was busted once because he was so high he fell off his bicycle at a festival in a park, and a 1/2 ounce of weed fell out of his pant leg in front of a cop.

Best way to not get busted is keep it within your plant count limits if you are in a med state so you don't bring any big attention down on yourself and seriously just enjoy the plant and only smoke with or provide close friends & family with buds. Going outside the carefully picked circle of trust will almost always fuck shit up for you. Remember, snitching is a disease that is very widespread amongst people nowadays, along with jealousy & envy. I think they need to add an extra commandment to the modern Bible actually, "Thou shall not covet, nor snitcheth, on thy neighbors buds!" 
The majority of busts you read about are due to snitches/CIs... power usage than checked, garbage is gone through, investigations are furthered, search warrant issued, etc, etc.
Remember guys LE doesn't "magically know" you grow. They have to start somewhere... have some jumping off point.

Thankfully, never been busted for a grow.
My mistake was having a partner, and allowing him to insulate himself from the risk.
this is pretty good, actually gave me a bit of an idea
having a snake as cover for your grow could be interesting
most cops probably don't much like snakes
don't have a complete picture in my mind yet, but this has possibilities
yeah, the old "hidden door" trick, behind/below a big glass box w/a BIG mothering snake in it. also covers part of the electric usage...

Well, Visiting a grow store isn't a crime and it sure isn't enough to get a warrant in the US, so there must have been something else.
