This reminds me of a story.

This guy I was working with was in a crawspace, pulling a line set. I was outside feeding it to him. All the sudden I hear these death screams, yelling my name as well as help! help! help! ahhhh!!!

I run over to the access hole and peak my head in, and see him wrestling around, swinging something downwards toward the ground, and I hear these high pitched shrieks.

Turns out a mother opossum attacked him to protect her young, and unfortunately he had to defend himself with a hammer. The mother did not survive.

You need the Jack Russell Terrier Varment Killing Squad.
Which reminds me of something else.

My Jack Russell is an avid backyard hunter. Today she killed a rabbit, brought it under the deck and buried/hid it somewhere. I can't find it. I'm going to have to crawl under there first thing tomorrow. Fuck.

Very true. I poked one with a stick after my dogs had "killed" it, when I came back with the shovel the little twerp was gone.
The Possum Academy Award has to go to the one in the road a mile away. Hasn't moved for 3 days; that's really playing possum.

Our dogs kill em real fast. Nothing is ever harmed unless it is stupid enough to come into the dogs fenced area. And yes,Highlander, they come back and carry many diseases so they are considered varments here.

the remaining dog i have is a pussy . my big dog is dead. he used to kill everything. he once dropped a possum at my feet. i was high and it was sort of dark.upon reaching down the bastard showed teeth and came to life. i dont think full grown possums are cute . but like most babies they are cute when young. i relocated the baby not killed. i also think baby skunks are cute and have relocated quite a few in my time.

i hear ya Girl,,anything that goes into your yard is fare game for the dogs,,,i wouldnt consider them as varments , but then again we dont get then hear,,(that most likely why i think the we thing looks cool)..

as for them carrying diseases,,this is what i was getting at with peoples dogs attacking them,,,suley if your dogs attack them there is a chance of your dogs getting the diseases,,,,(rabies or what ever thay carry).

does anyone keep there dog away from things like this because of the diseases thay carry.....

again i must stress, i aint flaming peoples actions, am just doing what us humans do (ask silly questions hahaah)

The dogs get their rabies every year instead of 2 years, they need to be wormed regularly, and are on heartworm, flea and TICK protection all year.If we do go on a hunt, they are bathed and looked over afterwards. But we don't usually hunt in the spring because the varments are all having their young. The skeeters are really BAD this year and so are the ticks. So,I am looking out the front window today and see a BIGASS groundhog just munching away. He is safe because he is in the front where the dogs can't get to him,but they can see him. He is mocking them and will make a mistake one of these days.....................keep chucking away, woodchuck.

i got rid of my groundhog gun when i moved back to cali. my 5 acre field out front provided many of fun days sniping groundhogs. in cali if i fire a shot ,swat and 50 cop cars would respond. when i killed groundhogs back east they were left for coyotes. no waste
