appreciate it! im am bummed as hell! if i lose this grow, i will have lost my last 3 out of 5 grows to bullshit.........

i have thought about giving up on the system. but fuck that shit! ive invested way too much money and way, way too much time!

ive seen what the growth can do, fucking insane! i have to master this.....
I love your attitude Krunch! I feel the same way because how crazy the growth rates were in DWC that I'll definitely be running them that way in the near future. I just didn't want to take any chances in losing 2 crops in a row. Personally I'm going to try out the 16 site, 13 Gallon Under Currents. I like your system though but I don't feel confident building it myself and making some stupid mistake. You seem like a smart guy with a lot of drive and I'm sure you'll master your system pretty soon. A lot of people give up on things when they go bad but I like to see you trying to figure it out. It's very motivational and inspiring! Keep up the good work!

A small computer UPS saved my ass more then once when I was running Stinkbud style aero/nft. It was only running 3 25 watt pumps.

In your case as long as you have your check valve to keep water in the buckets. A 1000va ups that cost 100 bucks will keep a small air pump going for hours. I know its just another added hassle but peace of mind is Very Nice. Unless of course you got the cash to drop on a backup generator and transfer switch.

Hang in there Krunch I'm sure things will start to get better, sorry to hear about the power going out.

Happend to me once after I just flipped my plants to flower I had taken clones and on the 3rd day I had no power my ez clone just sitting in the dark for like 12 hours, I lost half of my cuts.

Ain't that the truth. I was looking forward to you making this grow happen Krunch. Dont let it get ya down buddy, sometimes it take problems to learn the ends and out of a system.

appreciate it mc, i envy your mpb grows.....

water temp is down to 61 now, probably 65-68 in the buckets. took care of the heat from the chiller, room does not get above 81 now.......

You wanna keep that water in your buckets as close to 68* (or higher if your system will do it) as possible. If you start getting in the low 60s upper 50s you can stunt growth (in my experience at least)....this sometimes makes my roots look tan but not slimey....(i know from growing next to the window in winter before i had my fan).

Ouch sucks about the rot bro. Doing my first run in RDWC right now and dodged a bullet (That could still come back around and bite me in the ass) thanks to having used Aquashield as a preventative. I think mine was algae however, pH was going up instead of down. My recirc pump was off for 12 hours, which is about half of my DO, got brown slime. (Buckets are about 1 step away from being completely light-tight..) Went from 5ml/gal Aquashield to 15ml/gal, a week later it's like it never happened.

If you go the bacteria route, any idea what you plan to use? I hear good things about Great White.

I use FloraShield at recommended strength in conjunction with fresh water (no nutes) for 6-8 hours. Usually that cleans it right up if you catch it anywhere near the onset. I imagine that aquashield is similar as well.

Also, this is why I never will use any kind of organic nutes. It is the main reason I am running lucas still on my personal grows. synthetic nutes work well with non-biological pest/fungus control like florashield and aquashield.it really becomes that simple, drain system, add anti-microbial solution, run for 6-8 hours, drain, refill with nutes.

And one more thing, although this is far from fact, pure speculation. I think that having a system that recirculates quickly fights the baddies. But I think to be really effective the water has to drop into the bucket from the top to break the surface of the water. That is the reason I went with a top feed style similar similiar to blaze's (but with a much high flow), rather than the UC style. i am curious as to other people's thoughts

Super,

How do your water temps get so low without a chiller(low 60's to high 50's)....68 and higher is not good advice..Show me your roots at 68 and I will show you mine at 65..Lots of grows around here at 65...

Guaranteed the flow rate in these systems is more than most...Specs ask for 400 to 500 gph per bucket and about 20 - 30 lpm of air with most water falling 6" to 12" into the reservoir...

Krunch,

Dont give up...Maybe the problems started in the veg area and you brought it over to the tubs....My veg area has a separate chiller so it stays at 65 throughout veg...I do not use chlorine, but after the 3rd week of flower I stopped using the roots excel and started running a sterile system with a low dose of hydrogen peroxide run through during each water change...Then added the sm-90 until week 8....

Just reread the entire thread...

What would you say is your flow through each bucket in gph??? My first run was about 400 gph...New room is like 600 gph per bucket....

What was you veg setup like????

thanks

i use the 1800 gpd mag drive for 4 buckets, so 450 gph per bucket?

my veg room is in another house, did flood and drain, complete new setup, doubt if i got it from there.

i was thinking really hard the other night about how i could of got it. i was using a pump for mixing nutes in the mpb res and i was using the pump to water my other room in the house and i was using organic nutrients.....could of transferred from my other room. its a water to waste.....

the other idea is i left the mixing pump on for a few hours in the mpb res, temps reached 72, but only for a few hours......

i don't think i have root rot anymore, water temp in the res is at 61, no ph fluctuations, room temp is max 81, no slimy roots, no bad smell. but i lost my other magic merlin today........

the other two plants look perfect!

even though i lost the 2 magic merlins, i will stick some more plants in there, straight to flower.......

If it helps I run my DWC system with subculture M and B. I use black strap molasses at a rate of 1 tsp per 10 gallons. I have hit temps of 78f with no problems. The rot root only seemed to get bad with the addition of carbo load, sweet and other commercial products.

Winter time in colorado. I used to have my tent set up in my spare room, with the window cracked during the winter to keeps temps under control. it would drop my buckets down to the low 60* up 50s and when it got too low I got stunted growth. I had individual temp guages on the side of each bucket so i know the temps. I don't profess to know exactly what the cut off is, just passing my experience. 65* is a fine temp for nutes. As for temps of 68* and higher...my temps in my system are 78* right now, my roots are pearly white, and I have no sign of root rot. To top that off I haven't changed the water in my system since I started it up, and don't plan to before the final flush. The real issue is how do you get the root rot in the first place. I don't get it, so I don't have to worry too much about fighting it off. Thats why I stick with chem nutes in DWC instead of organics.

I didn't see what OPs pump was rated at, but I stick by the statement about high flow being a good thing, the more you can circulate each bucket per hour the better.

i think you might be right about the root rot and using the pump for both. ive had a res for an aero room go to shit because of organic nutes added to it

when i grow dwc i only use base nutes plus a booster; nothing else except some dutch master zone if i think the system might need the extra protection

i run chillers with external heater options so temps are never a problem and are 68f all day in my uc system with pearly white roots

double check for any light leaks into the water if you can; a small light leak will give you root rot symptoms regardless of water temp

i run a sterile system with dwc; from what i've seen people have nothing but problems with benes and dwc... there is nothing organic about growing plants in netpots in buckets of water in a room so why pretend?

good luck krunch

Sounds like you beat the rot mon. good for you, that stuff is nasty. One of the best products for rot I've found was AN voodoo juice, I think it was discontinued. Why spend all that money for it anyways, when bleach or hydrogen peroxide will kick the crap out of rot for a fraction of the price. I think most everyone gets to experience the rot their first run with DWC, it's like a right of passage.

I'm not sure if I understood everything correctly so ignore this if it don't make any sense. In the "slime thread" I read that the only thing that seemed to work with bubble cloners and brown algae prone water was Earth Worm casting tea and that p90 stuff. I wonder if small amounts of EWC tea would keep the bad stuff away without being too much N in flower.
