DR40 setup

I wouldn't think a cooltube would be necessary, you have plenty of airflow. I haven't used anything smaller than my dr120 though so I'm not speaking from experience with your tent. A 4" fan removes a lot of heat from the bigger tent so should be very effective with yours.

You need the filter (IMO). Hard to be stealthy without one, even in a small grow. Just one plant in flower can be pretty stinky, though that does vary from strain to strain. I wouldn't grow without a good scrubber myself FWIW.

Thanks, added to the list. And how about the sound stealth? Will it be ok with the controller?

likely it will be ok, only one way to find out...
edit: it really depends on lots of factors. each instance is different (ie. the acoustics of the room, carpet/tile/thin walls/ etc.)

if its not COMPLETELY silent, you can always use noise generators near it to drown it out. (aquarium, air purifier, computer system, etc).

Would it be possible to turn off the fan when the lights Are off and/or run the fan at say 30 minutes intervals? I have heard that too much ventilation can stress the plants, is this true? And if i time the lighting cycles i might be able to have the lights and fans off during visits if this is possible without too much stress?

Well, if you have your fan attached to a carbon filter (which it should be if you don't want everyone around to know what you are doing), then you need to run your fan 24/7 for odor protection. In other circumstances, yes you could shut off your ventilation provided that humidity was kept in check among other factors.

And as for the turning the lights off for visitors thing, do you mean you'd schedule your setup to be on at times when visitors weren't around? thats feasible. but if you are talking about interrupting the photo period, that would may be bad especially on multiple occasions.

about the low-odor strain thing, not that i have experience, but something tells me even those strains are going to have some stinky phenotypes. Again, i don't have experience at that, but i'd say it would be wise to have a carbon filter just in case you are pheno hunting and wind up with a stinker, lol.

just my 2 cents, good luck.

I do not think they make fans much smaller than that. I use a Speedster triac speed controller with a 160 cfm 4 inch inline fan, at about 1/4 speed and it does not make any hum. The variac is supposed to be hum free, but some say it is not compatible with every fan.
There is still noise from the fan, so if you can locate the tent in a closet that will help. You can turn the fan down to where it barely moves and then it gets very quiet, but you want it to move enough air, so there is negative pressure in tent and no odor leaks.
Use straps or bungee cords to hold fan, as metal chains will make vibration transfer and thus noise.

Hey Callemann,

Im running a dr40 with 250w cfl's and dr60 with 275 hps... I've gotten great buds off both setups, just pulled 2 oz's dry of Kandy Kush from the dr40. Your defiantly in for a treat!!

I totally understand the security issues you have. I have one tent in my bedroom with my girlfriend too, hahah... she's cool with my 4" s&p 100x (dr60) When you stop spending money on weed and take her out they forget about the fan!

I exhaust my dr40 with a shitty pc fan straight outta the hole at the top, lol... keeps cool, but you gotta run another pc fan across the canopy, and try to push out the sides of the tent if possible. I stuck a plant stake across the top, inside, to push it out... opens up the sides for the fan blowing across.

I open all 3 windows at bottom, and run my lights at night... no real issues with heat, summer of course will be hot.

I feel your fan might be overkill but put a controller on it and see whats up... but with the right airflow you can exhaust that tent with very little. If you scrubbing the air then maybe a muffin fan will do? the S&P fans are pretty quiet too...

just some stoned random thoughts, time for cereal.

good luck man, I will try to post some pics of my dr40 setup tomorrow, even though its cfl... whatevs :)
