How often do you end up watering?

Out of curiosity, how often do you water? In flower, with all size pots, I end up watering every other day. Any longer, they are wilting. I have always tried to wait until just before they would wilt, thinking that it is better to let them dry out in between. But some are so dry sometimes, that they have problems taking up the water at first, it just wants to run off. Maybe I am waiting to long?

What prompted this is that I just saw a thread with a comment in it and the user said that they water 3-4 times a day! I only water that many times a week!

just about every other day with decent sized plants in 3 gallon pots. They take about 1/2 gallon each.

once a week.

EDIT: 2 gallon air-pots.. I tend to water the hell out of them, then let them dry out almost all the way though.

#5 SmartPots - every 36 hours during the major push by the plant in flower. Usually every 48 hours or so during the other part of the flower cycle.

Same here, five gallon smart pots, 36-48 hours depending on demand, and when my teas have gone long enough..

I'm just finishing up a run on a plant which I used the Tropf Blumat technology out of Austria.

I was stunned - they actually work as promoted. They work very well actually though they do require that you have your soil built to the level of 'water only' for best results.

Check it out - pretty cool technology for the 'watering challenged' crowd that I belong to.

Weird, I let them get feather light(pots, 3 gal) but never wilting before I water(that's how I was taught to do it)
Depending on the plant it can be as often as every 3 days, or as little as once a week.
I water them when they need it basically.
But I guess people have different ideas of when their plants need it.

Darn, CC stole my thunder. I was gonna chime in and say I stopped watering my plants about a year ago when I started using Blumats.

They are INCREDIBLE. They water my plants better than I EVER did, and all I have to do is keep my reservoir full.

Sorry about that!! LOL

I was skeptical when I first looked at this product. Very skeptical.

As they say, the proof is in the pudding. What a time saver - meaning that I can leave for a couple of days and head over to the Oregon Coast and not have to be concerned about 'the garden'

Every other day with 3 gallon Smart Pots, and every 2 days with 5 gallon Air Pots. I let them lose about 50% of their weight in water before watering again...so, they don't totally dry out, but enough.

Wow, those are cool.. Just went to site..looks like having the 'greenhouse' setup with a elevated 5 gallon bucket would work fine. That 'water only' seed meal / mineral mix should be good for that.

What was your cost for a single #5 SP, and how many sensors in that single pot?

Seems cool, I'd do a test plant as well. Seems like you could supplement with compost teas when wanted/ or if needed with no harm, as the sensor would 'read' that the soil is too moist, and would stop watering..

Nice.

You would just want to make sure your tea was very well strained so the small dripper tubes don't get clogged. I think they're 4mm tubes.

Here's the kicker - their distribution in the US pretty much sucks. The only source that I found was these folks.

What they offer is the 'Blumat Deck and Planter Box Kit' which consists of 12 units. For #5 through #10 pots I would recommend using 2 probes per nursery pot.

The delivered price was $82.95 which will give you either 12 plants (#3 pots) or 6 plants for the sizes that I noted.

Cheap enough for what it provides, IMHO

RE: Applying AACT

Like BedBug noted, the distribution tube is very small (3mm). Given the way that they work, I would think that applying the teas in the traditional method would be best.

Watering from a different source than the Blumat did not change or impact their effectiveness. When the soil dried to the point of needing additional water after applying the teas, they simply kick in.

No reason to court disaster with such small tubing, IMHO

Bed,

I see what you mean.. I didn't mean to put the tea in the res. itself, but just water the soil as normal with the tea. Then when the soil dried out enough, the dripping would resume.

Sorry I wasn't clear..but I think that would work fine..

$83 is MORE than worth the piece of mind..I have a few vacations planned and this will help me avoid trying to find a friend to come over and 'help'.

I'll order some up next week, and start them on some rooted clones that I just got a few weeks ago..

I'm picking up a scratched aquarium this afternoon (100 gallons) to use as a reservoir for $20.00. I plan on adding a 30 cfm air pump with 200' of 1/4 soaker hose to keep the water aerated and clean. I plan on running an entire cycle to make sure that I have things dialed in for this summer.

We're going to vacation down in Cabo San Lucas for 3 weeks this summer at the home of an old friend of 40+ years. Not having to have a 'bro' come by (or more likely NOT come by) and check on things isn't a viable option. This technology may be exactly what I'm looking for.

We'll see................

Nice snag on the aquarium. We are actually experimenting with one of the "water only" mixes too and hoped to go the blumat way in the future. It is good to hear that you all had good experiences.

On the Cabo note: we just went for the first time about 2 months ago. (We stayed in San Jose actually though). It was amazing, and out of all the countries I have been to with peddlers, they were the most polite down there. Good people, good food(if you find the right places, I was bummed at some of the Americanized mexican food at some of the places we went), and beautiful scenery! Have fun!
