Any success with Predatory Mites?

Ive tried literally everything else. So please don't offer your .02 on how you think spider mites should be handled, or what you've done to get rid of them. I have a strain of spider mites that are resistant to ALL pesticides, insecticides and miticides, and yes even dichlorvos.

I don't mean to come off as a dick, it's just every thread I tracked down that asks about predatory mites seems to get high jacked and turned into a floramite or pyrethrum discussion.

So I am going to order one of the species, I am curious if anyone has had any success with these things? I just don;t know which species to pick. One thread I found, the guy was saying how they just sit in the dirt and don't eat the spidermites.... I don't want to waste 50$ as I am pretty broke right now.

I am leaning towards the Phytoseiulus persimilis as they seem to be the most popular. If no one posts on this, Ill order them and post results on exactly how they worked. Since i can't seem to find any reports on them anywhere....

But any advise/ info would be awesome!

When we ordered the predatory mites we made the mistake of putting all the leaves that they arrive on in the room at once. Of course what happened was the predators ate the mites, then ate each other, then the mite eggs sprouted and regroup[ed really fucking quickly as they knew they'd been hit hard. Infact we went from spotting on the leaves to FULL blown webbing and visible mites everywhere in 5 days. I think if we had of introduced a half leaf a day for a week or so it would have worked much better! The logic says they should work really well I geuss we just screwed it up!

Ok ive had success .but you really need a lot a lot and to introduce them succsesivly .
Like every 2 weeks for 6 x 2 weeks.
This was the situation and what i did .
Id had spidermite before and fenbutatin oxide worked fine !
i moved to wales new set up 6 mnths in i got spidermite used fenbutatin and nothing the mites just kept multyplying.
By the end of the crop they where massing every where yuk.
I shut down took a break having cleaned bleached swept hoovered every thing.
Came back from holiday 8 weeks later,
The grow was large 4 x 6 k 24 k lights
i started 700 seedlings and read up on phytoselius. at 2 weeks old i see white dots on the leaves here we go bastard mites
ok so no pesticides for at least 2 weeks ,im clear there.
I ordered 2 x 2000 every week for 6 weeks its recomended every 2 weeks but i meant biusiness and it hadnt worked before.
but i had not really tried
I made sure my temps where at 25C humidity at 70% mite dont like humidity and phytoselius do ,its impotant to have all leaves touching
so they can get around fromplant to plant.
I recieved the predators in tubes of vermiculite emptied them out evenly on the leaves of plants not just one place( important on the leaves) after one week the next batch 2 x 2000 arrived same thing carefully emptied them on the leaves. by the time six weeks was up i couldnt find either mites or predators looked every where then with my pocket micro scope i found a few phytoselius tiny round golden body little stick legs but no spider mites.
i carried on growing for 18 months never saw any more mites .One thing if you have loads of spider mite it wont work unless you have out numbered them 5 to 1 .
if its hot n dry wont work to much fans blowing a gale it wont work the enviroment needs to be 25 c to 28 c humid 70% good air flow but not blowing to much and plants touching each other, having not used pesticide 2 weeks but ideally 4 weeks and add loads of them evert week for 6 weeks.A

Why don't they eat each other in the tubes? I always wondered that.

AndyYo:

I had some HOT SHOT No Pest Strips in my room, how long do you think I should wait before I put them in that room? THey are comming tomorrow, it will be 3 days that they have been out.

Do you know if the Dichlorvos stick to the plants?

Always2theLeft; I had mites. I had loads of mites. I only grow Micro, but they were in almost every plant in my veg, making webs and shit, though some plants didn´t seem to get "infected". I had none in my flowering plants. Later I found out that Predator Mites don´t function in light conditions with less than 14 hrs of light......

I ordered InsectSoap one place and ordered 500 Predator Mites eggs somewhere else. The suppl of PredMites recommends that one uses the soap, wait 24hrs and then start adding the PredMite eggs, like, 1/3 at a time they turn into larvae that also are predators for mites.
The thing is, the predators arrived first, so I started introducing them.
Predator Mites are insects too, so after introducing the PMs, it would be stupid to use InsectSoap.
My dear Predators ate every M****F**** mite in the cab !!

:headbange:

Now, the only problem I have are these small black flies, but the Insect soap seems to keep them under control..

Good luck in the war against mites ! Keep us updated !!!

THat is amazing news man, What species of mite eggs did you order and off of what website?

Will the larvae get used to the 12/12 light cycle? because that is where my spidermites are.

I wish I knew this yesterday ebfore I ordered the adult predator mites... Oh well.

So the soap is not toxic to the Predators? What brand did you get?Oh and get your hands on some HOT SHOT No pest strips, they should handle your fly problem within a few days.

Meaning you´d need to get something else to get to them in the flowercab (12/12)

As in, it´d kill your expensive llill predators.
