Breaking down dead roots

I run ebb n flow with hydroton. I've heard once that after harvesting, someone left the trunks/roots in their bed of hydroton. After letting Hydrozyme run for about a week, they pulled up their stump and there were no roots left. Is this an efficient way to clean hydroton instead of the usual rinsing? Of course there will need a rinse afterward, but that would greatly reduce the amount of time and water needed. Can anyone chime in on this subject?

i believe hygrozyme is more for dealing with the nasties that dead roots can cause. I have always used it on live plants and had good results
