Soil mixture for outdoor grow

I'm gearing up for my first outdoor grow (auto AK47). I am looking for suggestions for the growth medium. I am located in Asia, so I cannot find the brands most referenced on the forums. Are their and fruits, flowers or veggies that thrive in the same kind of soil mixture that cannabis thrives in? I don't feel comfortable going to the garden center and asking for a soil mixture for growing weed. :)

Any suggestions of advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Dargo. What ratio of soil to perlite do you use?

You should be able to find enough commonly used garden products to mix your own. A good quality garden soil, sphagnum peat moss, perlite and vermiculite. If you can buy composted manure or peat moss that's good also. I've used a mixture of 4 parts soil, 2 parts peat moss, 2 parts sphagnum peat moss, 1 part perlite and 1 part vermiculite. Most commercial garden soils usually have a pH of 7. The sphagnum peat moss will lower and stabilize the pH. When mixed it should be loose and sort of fluffy. Grab a hand full and squeeze. When you open your hand it should crumble easily and not stay compacted. You'll probably have to experiment some to find the right mixture with what is available to you.

Thanks, Muddy. This information should be very useful. I expect I should be able to find this stuff in Hong Kong. At the very least, I can tell them that I want to grow tomatoes and that I need a soil mixture that has a pH lower than 7.
