Global warming my ass! I know there are some of you that are going to try and convince me that this recent cold weather is due to global warming..well..you can stick that shit in your ear. I have been living and growing in the same location for 12 years, I keep a calendar of low temps all year, every year. This has been the worst..ever. We lost a dozen very hardy roses, never lost any before, we lost 12 year old butterfly bushes, never lost a one before.
These giant pumpkins I have been nurturing along from seed for two months. I transplanted outside a week ago and they were quite vibrant yesterday doing wonderful. Our weather forecast was for 28 degrees overnight so I covered them early at 3PM yesterday afternoon to allow the soil to warm under the big plastic pots,, then a blizzard moved in,. This morning at 4 am it was 20 degrees, warming to 24 when I looked at them at 8 am, with a nice brisk wind blowing probably lowering with wind chill to around 15. I have never lost anything this time of year in 12 years, especially when covering them. No one is going to convince me of that global warming shit!

I'm just so happy I did not put out my precious cannabis clones and starts.......DD

here, in the bay area, we don't have it as bad as you, but it is still really cold for this area, this time of the year. just looked outside, 50 degrees, 10:38 in the morning, should be around 78-82 normally.

we inside growers love this weather and are holding our breath for it to continue, but you outside growers are having it rough.....

they said that the west coast was the coldest ever in recorded history, and the east coast the warmest.......

HOLY SHIT! I cant believe it snowed in NorCal in May....i live on the east coast of VA, and its already hot and humid....I thought Cali had warm weather longer than we do....and yeah Global Warming is bullshit...just another way to tax the tax payers with some bullshit "green" tax...Its just a way to get more taxes....
What the fuck is up with the weather in Cali? Ive never been there, i just thought ya'll have a longer grow season than me....

weather that articulates itself outside the adaptive norm of the natural world is the byproduct of "un natural" aka man made warming, thus the fact it occurs outside the realm of factors our ecosystems took millenium to adapt to

this notion behind this thread adds fuel to teh fire

if you want the truth

you got it

Ureap I didn't assume anything..I saw it first hand aka see my images, un-altered. So you are saying all the ice ages and previous warmings of our planet, the very few we can verify scientifically, were caused by cultures such as the Clovis? That's an interesting take. I just couldn't help myself in venting a little this morning, lost 36 tomatoes too! Big Smiles..DD

Oh noes, kill the people to save the planet! :whee:

No matter what the planet is showing you, you just rather believe that other data over there that may or not have been falsified...the *real* data.

Sorry about your tomatoes and Pumpkins DoobieD. At least you didn't have your meds out yet. How is that Green House coming along? You might want to build some of these over your veggie beds. I was anticipating another cold may and june just like last year.

Got some digging and composting done today. I'll take advantage of the late arrival of the normal oven temps here. Mixing dirt tomorrow.
Sometimes procrastination is a good thing.

Hope your garden has a chance to catch back up DD.

While I missed the corn snow coming down in waaay NorCal a few minutes ago I snapped a pic of what it left after only a few minutes. Was really heavy there for a bit and still coming down a little. What a crazy May!

Thanks everyone for posting, and UReap..no hard feelings brother. Yankee you must be my neighbor somewhere. Humboldtlocal..those would have helped me at maybe 25 to 32 degrees..but the 20 we had I think would have cut through your hoops as well. The greenhouse is completed..all but the plastic..how ironic...next spring I will be prepared. Snowing here this morning..but with snow comes warmer temps..32..and I covered what was left in the garden. Time will tell. After this storm is smooth sailing..I hope! DD

Doobie, that sucks man..I hope the weather makes a turns for the better soon... Thats alot of hard work, for it to freeze and die... Good luck man.

Hey many thanks to everyone for posting..specially those who took the bait and bit on my tempting global warming comment hook line and sinker..HeHeHe...update..lost everything, 26 tomatoes, all my pumpkins, the squash and cukes..but I am re-planting this weekend, I have 1200 pound pumpkin genetics, all will be well and the freeze forgotten soon. Xcept this, it is on my calendar as "do not plant before this date!"...DD
