lawhole for C. indica?

Hi,

I am from germany and stumbled on over the US-law definition.

Maybe my mind is just stuck there... why is there a definition only accorded to "Cannabis sativa" and not Cannabis in general?
I searched through the other pages but it seems Cannabis in general isn't mentioned anywhere else so I would come to the conclusion that pure C. indica is legal.

thx in advice for any help to understand this

C. indica not recognized in the USA, all cannabis is classified as C. sativa in the USA

you must remember that when these old US laws were written, there was no knowledge of different species of cannabis.
For now, until there is recognition of the different species, all cannabis falls under C. sativa classification here in the USA. No other species are recognized at this time in the USA.

Not quite. Almost, though.
Cannabis sativa is the only official / Latin / scientific name of all cannabis:- hemp, "indicas", "sativas", ruderalis, the lot....

The terms "indica" and "sativa" for different strains (not species, there is only one species) are simply notations of convenience used by cannabis growers, and in themselves are pretty flawed. Very few strains will fit neatly into the sativa-indica streotype, it's just an (increasingly useless) convention.

I think they're slightly more than strains, although that's where the definitions differ, some say they're subspecies and others say they're varieties. Don't quote me on that though
