root maggots?

as in fly larvae?

or do you mean fungus gnats? or root aphids?

never really heard about maggots being a pest.....

on the off chance you're talking about fungus gnats. small black mosquito lookin flyers that end up producing maggot-ish looking, but smaller, larvae that feed on the rootzone, you can EASILY eliminate them with a <$10 fix from Home Depot. Get somethin called Mosquito Dunks, active ingredient is Bacillus Thurengienesis.

I break up 1/4 to 1/2 (depending on how big of a pot it is) of a single dunk and sprinkle it on the surface of my containers, when I water, it constantly eliminates any larvae that might have gotten in there.

root maggots bro.... and yes i think they came from fly larvae how big of a threat are these guys ...when i went into my veg room i discovered the lil fucks :( some have black lines on the backs of them ? this has been going on for sometime now its a infestation as soon as u turn soil over in my 16oz cups plants also started showing signs of dry wilting and stuff no matter if soil was wet or not and been slow as of late on growth vs when i first put them in there

Sounds like you have fungus-gnats larvae...I assume your growing in soil ?? get yourself some mosquito-dunks different ways to do this some crumble them up in the soil but I have found its more effective to just soak the dunks in a gallon of water for 48 hours then water your plants with the solution...then in about 10 days repeat the process if needed if you have adults flying around ...get yourself some no pest strips and hang them in your growroom ........or some sticky traps either way good luck and keep it dank..........ST

just gonna put them outdoors cut me a clone of each and toss them into rockwool .im done with soil all together ...this is nothing but a reminder of why i love and swore:tiphat: by hydroponics for the last 8yrs

yo add sharp(preferably for growing)sand to the top of all pots and kiss good bye to the larvae
it shreds them up as they try and wrigle through the sand

i just went to homebase looked at the sands
there was one that was sharp and said for top dressing of plants and shrubs
place in on plants(a thin layer covering all soil/coco) and that was it didnt see them again

peace

after a good inspection i got 7 plants who are clean no maggots (flower room) and 12 who are infested (veg room) these guys are headed to the outdoors with a prayer
