t5 for veg, 430w hps for flower?

so i just "finished my box(4'x6'x7') im stoked! on my first try i achieved "lightproofness", and negative air pressure, with a passive(filtered) intake. i still need to install the ducting for the 430, but im not planning on using it till flower(energy consumption).

i also built and installed a homemade carbon scrubber. tested it by puffing a fatty in my box. no smell!:dance013:

so far im having a daytime(actual) high of 81 f. well within tolerances.

so my question is: do yall think i can get away with running just the t5(24" 4bulb 2x warm 2xblue) till i switch to 12/12?

glad to hear that! if i had to veg under my 430hps it would raise eyebrows(my power bill goes through my landlords hands). at least my flowering cycle will sync up with summer and i can blame the A/C for the increase.

humidity is still a concern for me. having not yet bought my hygrometer(due to mad brokeness), im not sure, but it feels a bit muggy in there. come payday many mysteries will be revealed.
until then my box has become the temporary home for some peppers i started. i wouldnt want my girls moving into a bad home.

other than a dehumidifier, what are my potions for dehumidification?

veg. day#1 woohoo!

veg. day#1 woohoo!

2 afgoo and a diesel! just transplanted and starting day 1.:jump:
conditions in the box: 76*f. 58% 18 hrs. t5 light.
clones just starting 5th node. the diesel is for my gf and one of the afgoos is my control, the other(my experiment) just got its first LST tie down. in a few days she'll get her first pinch on the highest branch(s).

gonna veg for.....? till my LST experiment is ready. till then ill be topping and pinching the others to slow their vertical growth a bit.

P.S. the herb from my last pull(the hog), is super danky! so sugary! great taste. pretty proud of my first grow:tiphat:

just decided to throw in a few more little girls.
3 banana goos. these came from a buddy of mine who grew quite a bit of this last season.

so here they are. say hello.

Your T5 does NOT have enough juice to properly fill a 24 square foot space with dense vegetative growth, IMO.

I think you will need more power to flower as well; 18 watts per square foot is not enough for dense flowers.

You should pick up a 1000 watt lamp if you can afford it, if not you can use the 430 watter to finish off the veg and use both to flower.

I've been mastering a 4'x6' space for the last several months, so you can learn from my experience, or find out for yourself-

Damn. How many plants you got there???

:D

ill only be using half of the space for growing. so 12 sq. ft area to be lit. i was going to be adding my 430 for the tail end of veg. perhaps a mh conversion bulb? and incorporating it in a bit earlier?

this grow is all head stash. so a huge yield, as nice as it would be, is not as important to me as is the learning experience. this is only my second grow. with minimal investment. ill be stoked to pull a QP off 6 plants.

A QP? Fuck that man, shoot for a pound. We can get you harvesting at least 10 ounces if you hang around ICMAG for the whole grow. That's the miracle of this site: you can learn AND harvest fat nugs this time.

The 430 will work fine if you are only using half the cab. Although, I would hang the 430 over the plants, then set the T5 next to them sitting vertically. Remember that light is the single most important factor: more light=more bud.

im gonna need a bigger light......

how long you veg for?

A bigger light will make it significantly more difficult to control the heat. You would also need an inline duct blower and air cooled hood, so if you can afford that stuff, you'd be much better off. If you get a 1k lamp and use the whole space, then you are lookin at more like 18-24 ounces.

BUT, I can help you pull at least 10 oz from the 430 and the T5. You dont need to buy anything else to get a nice harvest.

Proper veg time is variable based on the strains you are rockin' and is VERY important for growing in confined spaces. If you veg too long, you are going to overcrowd the space and any bud not in the very top of the canopy wont develop properly. If you dont veg long enough, there is going to be a lot of empty space and wasted light.

I'm guessing you probably dont know how much these strains are going to stretch, so you will need to train them to fill your canopy properly. An easy way to get started is to top the larger clones down to the height of the smaller ones, but you have to do it right to get the most benefit.

looks like i came to the right place

10 oz. huh? Well, good sir, you have my attention.
please feel free to critique my setup and also ask any questions that may lead to a larger yeild.

anyone heard of lavender? a local guy has one he wants to trade for a banana goo. he grew mama form a seed(soma he said).
i think im gonna do it. variety is the spice of life.

Thursday ill go get what i need to set up my light ducting system.

More wattage = more yield, your plants will do fine under the T5's, it's up to you depending on how much yield you want to achieve?

Lavender is a great strain although pretty lanky and stretchy. It wont get along too well with your bananas unless trained, but you are willing to put in the work, right? Go for it man.

my stuff

my stuff

here are some pics of the stuff im using in my cab.

pic#1 my t5 setup, its homemade 24" 4 bulb 2 blue 2 warm. cost me about 50 bucks to build(including bulbs).

pic#2 in the background you can see my carbon scrubber/fan unit.
about 80 bucks to build one of these (mines a bit overkill). i could probably make one cheaper, but for its purposes, bigger is better.

pic#3&4 are some ive been meaning to get up here. they are from my last grow(a little while ago). the hog. or hoggsbreath its hard to get a straight answer on lineage. so you never know! this was the first nugget i ever grew myself!
