4x4 hydrohut 1kw hps SCROG near 2lbs harvest

First- this is a Medical Grow.
SCROG works. First time SCROG. studied it for years, finally got around to doing it

started with 6 plants, culled one, finished 5 plants SCROG after 9 weeks. 28oz give or take estimated weigh in (depending on how much dries out- already semi-dry weighed in with a 15% margin).

the screen was around 85-90% fully filled in at harvest, after removing one plant early (you can see the right side of the canopy is a bit thin in front and in back- tried to fill in as much as possible).

the first grow was right at 32oz's (normal topped bushes vegged insanely long- 9 weeks or so- finished at 4.5-5ft in a hydrohut!!! that grow had 7 plants in 5 gal soil, which got a few grams shy of 32 oz's), this grow was expected to be 85-90% of full potential yield- which is pretty awesome. goes to show the yield potential of an awesome strain like blue dream. estimate that done with 6 plants scrog, 32oz's is run-of-the-mill with a few weeks of veg.

details:
4'7" x 4'7" hydrohut silver edition
-1000w HPS Sun System Super Sun II air cooled reflector (due up for replacement)
-1000w lumitek ballast
-4" High Output Can fan and Can 9000 filter (i think- its 25" long with 4" duct- my buddy's setup)
-RO filter (pain in the ass slow and wasteful- looking for something better!)
-no pH/TDS meters or adjusting
-Fox Farm Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom nutes used at full recommendation
-FLorakleen flush, with copious RO water to boot!

Couple things:
-will use more Fox Farm nutes in future, including the granular dissolving stuff (Cha Ching, etc)
-The Hydrohut NEEDS a full sized back door, or at least some much larger side access panels!
-SCROG is an awesome small grow/low plant number approach. plants are highly manipulatable.
-Growing is fun. as is producing pure medicine that actually works!

enough of the talk- some pics...

Scrog is the bomb. you're still at .7 grams per watt, but you're right in the 350g per sqft range which isn't shabby at all.

I think you could pull a heavier harvest if you went hydroponic, or at least the same harvest in less time. Look into coco, it could be a good fit for you.

What kind of Soil mix did you use?
Also where did you buy the screen/did you make it?
I'm definetly going SCROG this time so I need to pick up on some of the methods :)

What size pots did you use for these plants?

did i top? yeah, but doesn't really matter too much in the end with Scrog- if the screen is low, topping isn't as important- they top themselves e.g. side growth. i would top if you need a higher screen (ideally, the screen would be lower than what i did- but i needed some way to access the back plants. A back door acess would relegate this height requirement).

5Gal buckets with:
mostly 40% fox farm ocean forest, 40% Bumper Crop, 20% perlite. one plant was 100% canna coco mix (free from local shop buddy- but we didn't like the results from Canna)

Bumper crop is great if you can get it. been using it for years on/off. for $13, you get twice as much as the $22 big Fox Farm ocean forest bags. and a couple of us find it to be better than the pricey FF. next grow, going 70%bumper crop, 20-25% perlite/coc, 5-10% random organic crap. no more getting robbed by Fox Farm.

screen: simple garden trellis from home depot. it was taught at the beginning of the grow, but then started bulging, mostly in the center, from the upward pressure of the plants. plan on building a cross-braced frame to mitigate the plants' tendency for creating screen convexity.

thanks for all the replies folks! keep on truckin'

see the shitty half-moon windows in back? did the balancing act back there. worked out fine. but a back door would be much more functional.

Wow very nicely done!!! 29oz is great. And holy shit!!! $22 for a bag of FFOF?? I think youv been had on that iv never seen it over $12 where I'm at its currently $8 at our local home improvement store. Can you post a pic of the bumber crop bag? Iv been lookin into new soil as FFOF isn't all that great,iv been using it with Bcuzz coco, perlite and biolive and added worm castings, been seeing a huge difference using biolive I highly recommend it roots go nuts and plants look very lush and green.

That is very impressive! I have been debating whether or not to scrog, but then again I have tried 4 growing styles and have been growing for 2 years... Anyways, a very good alternative to ocean forest is Happy Frog! I use blazeoneup's mix with it and I cant even tell you how good the results are, it works that well! If you are interested you should give it a shot, might increase yield a little as well as flavor!

O wow... and now I was thinking hydrohuts were incapable of achieving GOOD resaults given the height restriction but boy was I wrong lol...My 2x4ft hydrohut is doing pretty well considering it's only got 2 plants in it under a 600watt HPS, will be maxing it out next run....Good Job w/ that nice pull!

Harvest will be by next weekend if conditions are right! :D..been a nice 11 going on 12 long weeks, running some G/N c99 x chem dog kush IX1 - seedbay, Have like 10 new strains(seed) to try out next run... gonna be an intresting selection process ;)
