What's new

1st Time Noob Grow - comments encouraged

Here we go guys, my very first grow op! I am extremely excited about this and am very proud of my bootleg setup. I didnt realize only 4 pictures were allowed each post so if there is a way to get more on here I'd love someone to tell me how haha. Anywho, the plants in the pictures are about 7-8 days old and as you can see I have three different pots with two different lights. The lights are energy saving 42watts but are equivilent to 150watts by putting out 2700 lumens, therefore two of these puts me out at approx. 5400 lumens for three pots. I am using Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil and some basic ceramic pots I found at walmart for about 7 bucks a pop. I am on an 18light/6dark ratio until veg. The seeds were germinated for approx 48 hours before potted. I do have a small fan underneath the pots so the area stays cool and I check this by thermometer (which has stayed around 76-78 degrees). Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Congratulations on your first grow dude looks like a good start.

Going reeeaaal smooth with the setup I see. What are your plans 2-3 weeks from now when they are too big for those pots and lamps? You get out what you put in man. Definitely reconsider using that Miracle Grow soil for when you transplant.

Have fun.

peace

yeah man you should look into a better lighting system. t5s are relatively cheap, and theyll get you some herb growing. you can buy them at home depot, and bulbs from the local grow shop

im new too but i agree you get what you put in.

5/18/10 - NEW
Thanks for the input so far guys, the problem yall seem to have realized was the one I was worried about... size of the pots. I have four pots from walmart (two can fit 8" and two can fit 10") and I wasnt sure if those were going to be large enough throughout the whole process. Also, how large should I allow my babies to get before I need to transfer into bigger pots?
Next, lighting. I completely agree you get what you put out but this was just a basic go to walmart and get it started idea. I did notice some t5's while at homedepot and lowes but i wasnt quite sure if i wanted to spend that kind of money on the veg stage and whether or not I needed to buy online or from the store (money is definately not of abundance here). I have heard sodium lights or HPS are the best way to go I am just extremely worried about blowing cash on something I wont need. Any more input for this genre of the op is the most encouraged :)
Finally, the NUTES!!! So far I have yet to use any nutrients aside from what is already in the soil. I am doing this very simple method to see what the lowest amount of effort can really do (these plants are technically weeds.. they should grow fairly easily haha)
Thanks again for the comments even after only 24 hours of my post!! Hopefully I can find a way to get much more pictures up here, until then happy blazin!

EDIT!!!!!
I found out that I can upload a bunch more pictures on my actual profile albums so for more photos of this current op check out my album titled "First Grow Op" in my profile!!!

EDIT AGAIN!!!
So I'm starting to think I'm way too excited about this op even at such an early stage but I have just decided to switch my light ratio for the veg stage to 20/4 for these last 2 or 3 weeks (they have been at 18/6 for the first week). Should I change to 24/0 instead? Suggestions? Also, does it matter to have my lights not directly above the plants at this stage? They are fairly well placed above the plants but at a slight angle to the point where the plants are already bending towards the light. I have simply been rotating the plants but should I worry about this anytime soon?
