does anyone know of a specific brand or model window unit that is air tight between the front and back side so they dont leak smell? im lookin for 2 one in the 15 to 18 k range and another 25k. the smaller one will be double boxed so it can be inside any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have run several of the LG 24K or 25K BTU A/C's (no heat) and never had a smell issue. I dont know if they are sealed but I never had an odor issue with them, and I used one for a drying room that had almost 30 pounds (dry) in it.

Just seal up the inside. Take it apart and you'll know what to do.

dtfsux, what did you need an A/C for in the drying room? Temperatures too high, or were you using it as a dehumidifier? (Or both?) Just curious.

if your ac box is build properly then a window a/c does not exchange air between the inside and outside of your box. it simply condenses the air from inside your room and blows it back in. the "Exhaust" side is actually just to expel the hot air from the condensing process.

That's what theory says.

Actual experience says 99%+ of the window units will exchange air between inside & outside, even if set in "recirculate" mode (if it has that feature).

Temps would get high, in the 80's I believe and we felt that was too high. And we thought about using a DH, but knew that would add to the heat. So we got a big window unit and set it around 72-75. It worked real well for us. I also had a can 150 and 12" fan recirculating the air in the room
