What's new

Please rip apart/critique this tea recipe! :)

Those quantities all seem very high to me for such a small batch of tea.

Care to recommend quantities that would make more sense to you using the same ingredients hopefully?

I'm very interested in any/all of your thoughts..

Thanks either way for answering I will use less than those values posted then.

I can guess, but can't really make an accurate recommendation, as I haven't done enough testing with those combination of ingredients. This is where a microscope comes in handy. I think MM might be your best resource for recommendations on amounts.

I'd prob drop everything from Tablespoons to teaspoons and keep the amount of compost at 2/3 c. Using it in free suspension isn't a problem provided the compost isn't settling onto the bottom.

Excellent thanks Tad. lol I've read the arguments about the scopes no worries about a guess that is all I am looking for. I would like to get a microscope probably off of Tim's site when funds allow such a purchase. Until then just taking your advice will have to do. You've been a great help I can't say it enough thank you man.

MM I asked you somewhere else about amounts too with the fish hydrolysate. Your input is welcome please comment if you can.

First proper tea of the outdoor season this weekend we'll see how they love it. Take it easy everyone.

What do you use the microscope for? Assuming to watch the micro wigglers? I have a trich scope I'm guessing it's not powerful enough?

The poster here, Microbeman, has a web site (MicrobeOrganics.com) with excellent videos showing the microbes you're looking for in aerated compost teas and this web site is a good resource in general including sourcing a viable microscope for fair money.

It's an interesting web site to peruse and study.

excellent.

And I don't think your trich scope would show you much. worth a try though, why not. Most i've ever looked at was my fungi in my EWC and oatmeal mix which is already visible to the naked eye. Maybe give it a shot next batch I brew up mine is 100x at the highest magnification.

Wow what a site! I've been immersed in it for two solid days now. It has also inspired me to buy a microscope. Thanks CC for the link and thanks MicrobeMan for being crazy about microbes!

Yeah I recently attempted to use my trich scope at 100x and really haven't had any luck. Although I was just checking out rain water that had been sitting around stagnant for a few days. I can't imagine it being devoid of microbes though lol...so I think you need at least 400x to see bacteria, don't quote me on that - still reading MicrobeOrganics.com to see if MM mentions the minimum spec scope you need...

Try looking at some pond water or compost tea. You should be able to see some protozoa or nematodes. The bacteria would be too small at this magnification.
