Not all Lowes will carry that product, it really depends on where you live. For instance, where I live the native soil contains a shit load of limestone and is very alkaline, and no one would buy that. People here buy peat and use coffee to acidify the soil.

I wouldn't use oyster shell as a substitute for dolomite. I would think that is bad advice. You can augment the dolomite with it oyster shells though, and gypsum too.

My bad OS is trace Mg only! Dolomite is correct. Posting with my blood sugar too low makes for mistakes...apologies

Virtually the same stuff. However the big box stores carry dolomite "soil sweetener" in fast powder and slow "prilled" form( little beads) very cheap.
But as was mentioned Oyster shell powder is in many ways better as it contains trace minerals from the sea and can be used just as one would dolomite.

I think Dolomite is slightly different in action ( not powdered ) than crushed oyster shell but similar.

I have no problem with either but i do like oyster shell for its surface area over Dolomite.

Powdered anything is faster and if you only have oyster shell you can grind it up in a blender easy if you need a faster acting form.

Thanks for reminding me actually.. I should top dress with shell soon.. It's been a while. Doesn't rice flour have Mg? http://www.nutritiondata.com/facts/cereal-grains-and-pasta/5726/2

There are many ways to provide and the humor is that we can actually buy our plant food at the grocery store! Well that and the Feed Store..

My local menards has it as well. 50lbs for like 2.95 or something. They didn't carry it until they really got the gardening section going in the spring. I'm going to hit up all the big box stores in the fall and try and buy out thier lime and espoma products when they go on sale in the fall.
