Deciding on a cab for first grow

So after _some_ deliberation, I've decided that making my own cabinet was too hard/time consuming/expensive. So I went down to a couple thrift stores to check out some cabs they had lying around. I've narrowed it down to two, which are funnily enough polar opposites.

#1. Ok this thing is a beast. It's over 6" tall, has 3 segments, the bottom one i plan for storing stuff and possibly for a hydro setup if i decide to do that in the future. The top two segments are about 3' 9" combined, and i will probably cut the shelf separating the two sections. It's dimensions are (inside): 3' 9" h (top two segments), 2' 6" length, 2' width.

I figure that I can get 6 plants in there max, with each one potted in a 6" pot (I don't know if that's the optimal size but sounded pretty good to me)

#2. This one is much smaller. It's the same height, 3' 9" but w/o a bottom segment. It is 1' 5.5" in length, and 1' 2.5" in width. For this one i figure i can squeeze in 4 plants in the same 6" pots.

Which is better for a first time grower?
I realize that's pretty general, so here's more about my short term and long term goals.

Stealth: the reason I am choosing a furniture cab is because i want it to look just like that: a piece of furniture. yes i will most likely be using some kind of scrubbing

short term: soil, straight up seed to flowering grow. I've bought some seeds off a seed bank and they should be here soon. I think I'm just gonna straight up grow a single one of each of the three strains i bought (they are feminized).

long term: mother w/ clones. choose my favorite strain, get a mother goin and grow clones continously. probably hydro

thanks in advance,

with #1 it sounds like you could accomplish your long term goals within 1 cab...#2 on the other hand would be ok for short term, but long term you could use it for a mother/veg/clone area and have a second cab for flowering

I guess it comes down to if you want multiple cabs or not.

have you considered building your own wood framed/poly wrapped tent that could be dimensioned to fit a secluded area in your place? Your going to need the exact same tools to build it yourself vs modify an existing cabinet; well except for a hand miter box. Sometimes retrofitting something becomes more of a hassle vs designing/building from the ground up.
