HEAT MANAGEMENT WITH CO2??

W

hey i am planning on using co2 in my grow. but im wondering how I should regulate the temps with a sealed off room. I have 2 1ooo k lights and 1 400 and the temps with them on reach the 90s. im thinking an airconditioner but maybe some kind of vent fan.....? my room dimensions are 12x9x8

an A/C unit set in the wall or door of the growing area so that the heat from the A/C can vent OUTSIDE the garden will work, just set the A/C for recirculation, instead of pulling in fresh outside air (most window units do this by design).

and I would get a controller for everything, it makes it all very simple, you just set it to the temp, co2, humidity level you want, and plug everything into the controller, it'll start and stop the A/C, run the co2, and any venting fans you have.

nice thing is most grow areas are pretty small compared to a full room, so even a tiny window A/C unit will do a GREAT job on a garden area.

Do you recommend any specific brands?

the one you can afford! :D

you want the most BTU's of cooling, keeping in mind the A/C unit will draw some pretty heavy amps when it's running, so stay within your amp/watt limit or you'll be poppin breakers all the time.

I have a wall mounted mitsubishi "Mr. Slim" A/C unit (amazing thing, even comes with a remote!) but it was nearly $1500

you can get a window mount A/C at home depot or wally-mart for less than $125

don't forget about craigslist too, you might find a great unit for CHEAP,.....just don't wait till hot weather if you want a deal.

do a search on 'AC box' or 'Light trap' you can builf yourself of buy something at home-de-pot.

so is your AC properly cooling your area now?

Well with 2400 watts I'd go with bottled co2 especially with the light weight 35LB bottles. Depending on your set up each 35lb bottle should last you about 6/7 days at approx $35cdn per refill. The cost of the bottle is a bit high and locally they go for $350-400 With bottled co2 you have no heat issues and the co2 falls to the ground which can be redirected towards the plants a bit better.

at the moment im not running my 1000ks but when they are on the temps go into the 80s. seeing how its snowy outside now this will become a more major problem once summer hits. Ive used my ac in the past and it cools great, it just has a little light leak isseue

Get a co2 tank with regulator. With two lights a 50lb tank will probably last you a few weeks with no extra heat added.

If you are gonna use a co2 burner it'll add an extra 400btu per bulb.

So from what I understand you actually want the temp to be higher when using c02, right? Is 85-90 the ideal range? Or should you go a little higher or lower?

You can get away with those temps but I wouldn't go higher then 85/86.

85 to 90 will work and be fine, and grow some dank, 78-85 is the range I use, and i think its better. Are your lights aircooled? can you aircool them? A sealed off room will most likely not work unless your lights are being aircooled, and it lets you get the lights closer to the plants too.

yea my lights are aircooled. i finally got my controller working, and i went through a 20lb tank in exactly a week in a 4x8 room. is this normal, or do i have a major leak somewhere?

if you can run another vent tube nail up the window with a peice of wood and get one of thoes indoor units that sit on the floor. I don't know exactly what the name of thoes type of a/c units are called.

You have a leak unless you have humongous, extremely vigorous plants.
