18/6 vs. 24/0

I am on my second grow, and i was wondering what peoples thoughts were on 18/ vs 24/0 veg photoperiod. I have read that marijuana plants can handle and utilize 24 hours of light. During my first grow i used the 18/6 and the plants seemed to grow faster than they are on my current grow, which is using 24/0. This could very well 1be due to my impatience and my imagination. I would like to know everyones thoughts and experince on which to use. If its not going to be benifical to my plants than i am just wasting electricity. Any enlightenment on this issue would be very much apperciated. Thanks!

It has been demonstrated that the optimum photo period for growth is 20 hours light, 4 hours dark.

Yeah retro grow if you could show a link..

I've always done 18/6 because I think its very important for the hormones in the plant and the physiology.

There is success with 24/0 though.

IME 18/6 or 20/4 provided better growth than 24/0....its my understanding that at night they can proform biochemical processees using their stored energy from day. i think that the growth at night is very substancial.....you can even see it when the lights come on they have a yellowish foliage in the middle of the leaves. night growth

This has been asked million times. Use what works best for you mate.
24/0 can be useful to shock plants that go outdoor in to flower.

Peace

Well logically plants would need a dark period to rest a lil or whatever they do in the dark. I have vegged in 24hrs and the ones at 19/5 were taller and healthier looking IMO...

lol the plants end up taller because they strecth more when there is no light(on 24 plants end up more compact) rather simple , if u can keep the conditions perfect, IMO 24 shits on every lighting schedule for veg , but is alot harder to keep and requires alot more work ie watering every day , dont beleive me ? il prove a point and do a side by side with cuts , i actually read a document recentely stating that plants dont need any rest at all :)
vegging takes too long on 18/6 im sorry bullshit people trying to call that one better, not really tried 20 on 4 off but willing to bet 24 is better

I switched to 18/6 a few years ago, didn't notice much difference in the plants, but I did in my electric bill

I run 24/0 for the first 2 weeks, then switch to 20/4 for the rest of veg. I've run 24/0 for the entire veg, but found the plants to respond better with some dark - less problems, more vigor. YMMV

Yeh this debate seems to continually resurface like the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

I'm a 24/0 lights on during veg grower but can't say i've ever experimented with 18/6 or 20/4 format.

Seems what I've heard and read cannabis doesn't need a latent or dark period at all during veg but I'm sure there are many who disagree.

I use 18/6 b/c it saves on electricity and I have never noticed any difference between their growth and those under 24hrs. The only thing I use 24/0 light for is while I am cloning.

i have been using 18/6 .. i have done 24/0 and 20/4 to.. my method is i use 18/6 because it may be less dramatic when you go to put them into 12 12 and sex or flower:tiphat:

i use 24/0 veg and i've done 18/6 and 20/4..

with 24/0 they just grow out of control and bushier. every day they seem way bigger..they just take off..

in my opinion i want the switch to flower to be more dramatic..i think it speeds up the switch from veg to the bud making process..
