What's Good Fellas/Gals,
I am in the market to upgrade my current grow, from CFL's to PL-L's.
My Question is, I would like to be around 70-80 watts.
I need to know what bulbs would fit in a L 16in X W 7in X H 16in PC case? Also what ballast is needed to operate?
All the bulbs I have came across are 20+ inches.
thanks

Wazzup Endur. I think you will be limited to the 24w bulbs I'm afraid, as that case is a little too short to be ideal. You will need like, an inch on top of the lengths in the diagram, to allow for the base, and some space to remove the bulb from said base.

I got some pl ballasts from ebay. Sometimes you can use regular fluoro ballasts but I'm not sure on the finer points.

Thanks for the info ScrubNinja,
So If I'm reading the diagram right, The Diameter is .07 of an inch? I will have to use 3 bulbs, to equal 72 watts?
I will also need to get 2 ballast, can only run 2 bulbs per ballast right?
Might even go with 4 bulbs.
How's the heat on these lights? will 3 pc fans be sufficient enough to keep temps in check?

immaculate,
Ya, my first attempt was 100w MH in my PC case, But failed. I couldn't get the temps in a tolerable range, and i even made a cool tube for it but it takes too much head room.

Thanks

No worries bro

It's actually .7 of an inch

I will have to use 3 bulbs, to equal 72 watts?

*counts on fingers*..... yup!

I will also need to get 2 ballast, can only run 2 bulbs per ballast right?

It all depends on the ballast itself, and it should note how many it runs. Most run one or two. I think some run more than 2 but I'm not familiar with them.

One good fan is potentially enough to cool them. It all depends on the fans, and the way you use them. I would recommend to read Aerohead's and D.I.trY's PC threads because I've never used 'em in a pc. But overall, they put out less heat, and more lumens than CFLs. The main thing is to mount it so the bases are right in front of the exhaust, as the bases generate significantly the most heat.

And as for bulbs, I'm not to sure yet. I really would like to find 24 watt Daylight PL L, but haven't came across any yet. I have seen plenty of 3000K-4100K bulbs, My Question is what do you PL-L guys use? I am going to run 3 bulbs.
In my PC case, I run 3, 23 watt daylight 6500K for veg, and for the first 3 weeks flower. After the 3 weeks, I swap out 2 bulbs to the 2700K bulbs, So I need to find the closest Spectrum in the PL-L bulbs.
Anyone Know some good online shops to get these?
thanks

Screw the HPS route it doesn't work well for the micro i think personally. If i had a 100w HPS theres much more heat to worry about. I'm using 90w of PL-L through 4-24w's. I like these as their real cool and put out light perfect for the size of my cab. Than again my cab is smaller than your so the 24's line my roof with little extra room. The Fulham ballast you mentioned is the one i have and it works great for what i use it for. Here's some old pics just so you know.

I use the 3000k for flowering and a mix of 5000k and 3k for veg. This website is where i get all my pL-L bulbs. http://search.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=yhst-50898628592294&query=2g11&x=0&y=0

Oh and Scrub got 3 women so far and prolly one male i'll breed with.

ScrubNinja,mexicangreen420,City Twin,

Well, my lighting choices has been looking like this...
If i want to run 6500K I will need to use bulbs that are used in Tropical Aquariums.

I also have a question,
There are even 10,000k bulbs for saltwater/coral reef tanks. Will these be better than the 6500k ones? I can get them in the size I'm going to run, in my PC case.
peace

hey guys can you help me out? I am either going to get the AH Supply reflector + ballast arrangement kit for 4 lamps. Or I'll save money and add a slow moving or under volted 12v motor to my electrical and rotate them on a vertical carousel kinda like hotdogs at 711 lol. i can only afford 4 for now though.

What colors should I have for both veg and flower? I mean like, which arrangement of 4 bulbs do I use for veg, and which arrangement of 4 bulbs do i use for optimal flowering? Someone here mentioned 10k. I'm thinking that may be a part of this lighting array.

Thank you :)
