I need quite do to a house guest 3-4 days a month at the location also need to be powerful enough to vent 4 hoods split 2 inline on 2 6 inch runs. I was thinking of ordering online to get a can max 10 inch for 294. If you have better prices let me know. http://www.altgarden.com/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=281
Is local for 306 but they want way more like 433 for the can max. how quite is a can max compared to the regular can? They also have a vortex 10 inch for 290.

295 for a can max
290 plus tax vortex
306 plus tax for a can 10

I am confuse and just don't want to waste limited funds on a turd that is going to shake the dang house

how well do they work with a high static pressure? I know the regular can fan does not drop to bad unlike a squirrel cage and I am looking for a chart on the can max. I see the elicent for about the same price but it would suck if it didn't blow well

Get a 12" Vortex, shouldn't be much more. The 10" is basically an 8" motor in 10" housing.

I'm not sure that it will be too powerful even for non-recirculating setup, but a speed controller doesn't cost much.

I've always used 12" Vortex on a CAN-150 for recirculating (no ducting attached) so YMMV but I have a feeling the contact time will be long enough.

You are right on the 10 being not much more in ability to the 8 but they want over 400 for the 12 at the local shop but only 290 for the 10.

i have a 8" HO can fan, for my can 100. (that 8"HO is about 750CFM)
they fit perfect, vortex doesnt fit in the can filter flange well

Fits perfect. Which flange are you talking about?

I've had a Phresh (or was it Phat?) flange not fit well, the shiny, polished, non-tapered flange that's permanently riveted to the filter housing.

Hello- I got mine from midwest hydro i forgot the price but operation of the fan is extremley quit but it moves so much air on high speed the air movement is kinda loud But the best centrifugal fan i've ever seen, just make sure whatever you get you get a speed adjuster my speed switch is perfect i can run it really quit or blast the hell out of it and clear a big room in minutes. oh yeah it does,nt matter if the size's are diff. you can use a piece cardboard as a flange to line them up. i've ran this fan for 3 yrs. straight 24hrs. a day(literally) with no prob's whatsoever. 8" flange from the can filter, to an 8" can fan. drops in perfectly.

i used to have a can 50, 8" flange to an 8" vortex, it did NOT drop in (it sat on the edge), i had to tape it, instead of being able to screw it together.

You must not have gotten a Can-Filter brand flange. I've dealt with just about every size from 6 - 12" Vortex & Can-Filters and have never had a problem having one pop right on.

Never owned a Can-Filter inline centrifugal fan, so I wouldn't know (only Max-Fan's) about how those fit but it would make sense they'd fit fine considering they're the same brand.

weird, cuz i know it was can brand flange.

regardless, i like the can fans, more then the vortex. can fans power supply is built into the fan... not a black box on the side w a cord like vortex.
also, can fans come with the stands already assembled. the vortex you need to piece it together if you want to hang it.
overall i like the can fans bcuz they r alittle easier, and good to go out of the box

my vote is for can fan, either way you go

Go Valueline. i am really happy with my 6"....your 10" is only $139 plus shipping. And they are reasonable on shipping. Here:

http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/valueline-10-inch-780-cfm-centrifugal-inline-fan-p-2262.html

Oh yeah, you will also need a speedster speed control to help battle the noise....

They are like $30 so no big deal.

WOW that is cheap. I might just get that I do have a couple of 6 inch fans to use as back up in case that one bites the dust.

Any one ever have a bad time with valueline? will it wound like airplanes are taking off? I just shopped around on that site and saw how much more stuff I could get for the same money as going to the store local. new bulbs and even an extra hood!

Interesting... I prefer the mounting gear off by default, since I use most of these fans for scrubbing and it's annoying removing it or getting scratched by the sharp edges.

Been a minute since I've seen a Can inline centrifugal, but I'm near positive they also have a box mounted on the size... maybe not black, but a similar contact / PCB box with cord coming out. Unless you have a way different model than what I'm familiar with.

I like Vortex's because:

  • Seems to be much more widely available
  • Better price-point
  • Longer warranty (10 years)
  • Does not have mounting bar installed
  • More easily tape-able, "longer", less tapered (more cylindrical) flange on the fan
You'd think I was a Vortex salesman with that list, but I've designed & built a lot of rooms and these "feelings" do build up over time.

If Vortex wasn't available, though, Can would be my next choice. I've messed with a few of those ECOPlus, Valueline, (maybe even Fantech, I don't remember) etc. fans and they are not as nice as Can/Vortex IMO, just built a lot cheaper, heavier, less performance w/ same printed specs, louder, vibrates more due to less/unbalanced motor, worse impeller blades / fins, etc. Not all inline centrifugal's with similar ratings are created equal. (There's a YouTube video of an 8" Can out-sucking an 8" Vortex, but that means little to me as I know what real-world performance is like.)

haha, i know what you mean, they dont take the edges of the hardware. either company. ive cut myself on vortex stands pulling them out of the box too...

we both have solid points. helps arrg more!

on my can fans the electical is built in. but some have variable boxes on them, to turn the power down.
i do have a vortex tho. works just fine. not hating on them at all. both brands have good products.

huh?

All these votes for the Vortex over the MAX 10"? I dont get it. A MAX 10 will run circles around a vortex 10".

I'd go with the MAX 10" and can guarantee you wont be disapointed. They are very quiet and move a shit ton of air.

The MAX 10 and MAX 14 fans are some of the nicest most silent fans available. You can hardley hear a MAX 14" even without ducting ect attached to it. Try that with any other inline fan and they sound like a jet engine without anything attached to them.

I run a MAX 8 and a MAX 12 and while they definately do the trick they are CONSIDERABLY louder then the 10" and 14" models which move just as much CFM at a much slower RPM.

Go with the MAX 10" regardless of cost.. its a superior fan. All of these votes for the vortex must have never witnessed a 10" MAX in person.

/ on personal experience / a MAX 10" on a Can Filter 150 was more quiet then a 8" MAX (loud) on a Can 100 and even a 6" Vortex on a Can Filter 66.

Why so lost?

What's the static pressure rating of a Max-Fan 10"?
Not sure - I just strongly recommend the Max 10 or 14 if noise is going to be of concern. The Max 10 will definately do the OP's task while being quiet enough to not have to sweat those guest visits he was mentioning.

I have a MAX 8" / Can 100 and unfortunately I can hear the mild roar at the top of the steps/basement door. I wish I would have went 10" Max in every situation I've already purchased a MAX 8". I cant even hear the MAX 10" over the other oscilating fans in the room.

link to MAX specs if anyone is in need
