3 plants? What steps do we take to change this?

Hey All,

Colorado patients (of which I am now one) are allowed 3 plants.

#1 Explain to me how this is possible for someone who requires Specific/Multiple strains, quantities for edibles, additional product to account for waste during edibles processing and a 24/7 medication regimen? Let's add into that the need for 100% pure sativas that take 11 weeks or longer to mature and.... how on earth is this possible?

#2 What would be the best place for me to start looking for professionals to interview (by mail perhaps) and begin putting together a document supporting the necessity for patients to have a significantly larger plant number.

I mean... think about it.

So far, the strains I've come across that helped both my head and body equally.... have all been strains that I've built a tolerance to.... sometimes quite quickly. Because of this, I need to switch strains every week or so... fortunately, 2 strains are adequate, but by no means optimal. I'm really looking into canna-caps made with 2-3 different strains. *sigh*

Am I, as a patient, supposed to be punished by not allowing me to search for additional strains that may work better for me? How on earth can this be accomplished without undue stress? Am I to believe that the disgustingly meager and marketing poisoned clone market is where I'm to search? I wouldn't touch that garbage with a 10' pole.

How long then, would it take for a personal grower, with a 3 plant limit... to find just one great representation of a new strain... a great example to determine whether the strain is appropriate or not?

You can't. One mum of one strain is one plant. One clone of that is one plant. One clone being flowered is one plant. That's 3 plants. If you plant a seed you've exceeded your plant limits... how are you going to clone it to keep it around, while you flower it out and test it?

I'm new to Colorado, but I'm not new to Cannabis. Any help here would be appreciated.

Thanks and....

Is it 3 plants total or 3 plant in flower? I can't see how they can expect 3 plants total to include clones and vegging plants to provide meds. That makes no sense at all.

How can you be expected to keep your meds on hand?

The time involved in finding that perfect strain is going to be a real PITA and leave you either breaking the law, or going without meds a lot.

*even if you have that perfect strain, you would really need to grow trees in order to compensate for the flowering time of your next plant. I don't know how much you use, but there will definitely be some tweaking to time your harvests just right.

** I would at least get a hold of your local NORML chapter and see what may be in the works.

3 in flower 3 in veg. It's in the const. so good luck changing it without a statewide vote.

Patients who possess written documentation from their physician recommending the use of marijuana and are registered with the state and issued an identification card may legally possess no more than two ounces of marijuana or no more than six marijuana plants.

When I went and saw my doctor, I talked with him for about 1/2 hour after he told me I qualified. I explained to him how marijuana was effective for me, what I required to treat my conditions, he then proceeded to write me a 2nd recommendation on his prescription pad, that reads"patient requires additional plants for topical and oral usage.." I then spoke with our lawyer and he informed me that this 2nd rec is protection if I were to get caught growing more than the state guidelines, as long as my doctor would come speak on my behalf to say I indeed need more than the allotted amount.. Hope this helps

I think this is great advice personally. Just honestly talk to your / the Dr. I would just explain that you need a bit more because of alternate methods on ingestion. Should be fine IMO.

Really awesome advice there FF. +1.

The dispensation order given to you by your dr to increase your plant count isnt recognized by the state of Colorado. If you are at or under your 6 plant limit, you can plead a simple defense. That means you go in front of the judge, say 'prove I broke the law.' Any plant # over this requires an affirmative defense, which means you get to pay a lawyer (too much) to prove you did nothing wrong. Big diff, your lawyer wants your $$, after all hes a lawyer........

On the practical side of growing enough varied meds within state limits, ive pretty much got it figured out. First you need to network with other growers so youll have some clone selection. In the 6 yrs ive been growing ive run probably 50 diff cuts thru my room, theres your selection. Patients also regularly swap meds with each other to have variety.

I take care of 5 patients plus myself. I generally flower 14-15 plants at a time under 3- 600's. The flower room cycles goes about 70 days, so that 5 turns a yr. So there I have 14 plants at 3 oz per plant every 70 days. I take cuts off the plants right before I put them into flower, and veg them under t5's until the room is ready for them (they dont grow as fast vegged under t5's as they do under HID, which works well for me). So theres 28 plants and im allowed 36 total. No mothers allowed, they just jack up my #s. I could also sprout 10 seeds if I was inclined, and kill a couple that didnt appeal to me, and still be within state limits.

Now heres the kicker...........

I do an outdoor crop every year. I can pull a lb per plant. I put out 15 plants. The only time the fl room needs to be shut down is in august/sept when the outdoor is flowering. The rest of the time the outdoor plants are just big veg plants. If you work it right you can wack a crop june 1, reload the room after taking cuts (for your outdoor) and flip it. The room will finish first of august approx, just when the outdoors begin to flower. Take cuts off these od plants for your room and veg them til sept 30ish (they may have to be pruned a few times to keep them from getting too big).

It can be done, right now in my flower room ive got 14 plants. varieties are arcata cut trainwreck, jackie o, bubba dutch ssh, nycd, ak-47, a bubba kush cross, and 6 spg x haze from seed. It just takes some work and planning. It seems to be working my patients and I are never out of meds. There is lots of flexibility in this plan, esp if you like to do seed runs from time to time, as you have extra meds to cover those runs. I could easily scale it down to accomodate only my personal needs, it would be a walk in the park.

Good luck!

Once I get the basics down, I'll be moving in this direction.
1 mom, lotsa strains for cuts.

Also,
rotate plants through flower every 20 days or so.
1 @ 10 days
1 @ 30 days
1 @ 50 days
cut, shift, rinse, repeat.
this will add a new strain to your 2oz on the shelf every 20-25 days.

The 3/6 rule is a bitch.
Creativity go!

This is great... the only downside (as the doc and I agreed) is that it really doesn't protect me 'legally'. It definitely doesn't protect me when LEO walks in. I seriously doubt they're (in some/most instances), going to care. That's the rub.

I have a rec that states additional plants as I'm working toward quitting this smoking crap. I can't wait to switch to edibles/cannacaps/tinctures.

I'm sorry, but to work from seed (which is what I need), that won't work. Each seed would need to mature for 2 months at least (not a problem as I keep things bonsai) before flowering.... and even then, it would only be ONE chance at a possible keeper.

Some strains take 500 seeds before finding a keeper. We're talking a lifetime, just to add a single keeper for a strain.

What a joke.

Ok, so.... we need to get a body of evidence together, from professional cultivators in other areas of agriculture to document the ridiculousness of plant limits.

Statewide petition? That means Statewide education....

I also agree that the 6 plant limit is a bit ridiculous to keep a perpetual garden, I feel that a 100 sq ft garden per patient would provide more than adequate room for coloning, moms, veg and flowering in a 100 sq ft canopy for 1 person is more than good.. alas that isnot the case here in Colorado. <y attoeney also walked my dr through on how to write me a recomendation for more plants/weight because I am a heavy medicator and make a lot of edibles and I need a wide variety in strains because I have som nay different things wrong with me and haven't found a single strain to address all of my issues and I also get strain locked pretty easy.

In CO HB1284 it says that doctors' recommendations for additional plants will now be honored so theoretically if it all ends up standing as written now then that would ease the LEO side of it.

Easy Skanking, I know I will be covered, but all of my patients will suffer greatly, as I will be limited to growing for myself and my husband whom I grow with who also has his liscence, and cut it down to my patients that are my closest friends who have their recommendations so I will not have more than 5 patients. I cannot afford the amount of money to get the other liscences like the big dispensaries, I give away a lot of my meds to my patients that are low income and are really sick. I'm worried about them, my patients I will have to drop... It makes me physically ill thinking about it all, but I can't go to jail, I'm really sick too.

DK. I'm sorry you're sick (or anyone) and I know it costs a little money to purchase a ballast and soil etc but would it be an option for them to grow their own medical marijuana? If I had enough money to go down to the dispensary anytime I wanted, I would still grow. There's something very satisfying about growing your own imo.

Don't blindly assume that everyone is like yourself....

You forget... there are many people that are physically/mentally incapable of growing their own........ how do they get their meds?

Hell... I can barely move shit around some days.... I'm not looking forward to 10 years from now.
