large Seeds versus Small Seeds Experiment

I have about 20,000 seeds that i went threw and picked out all of the really small seeds from the large ones. The seeds are of good Commercial Mexican and who knows where else.I will be doing this grow Outdoors.I'll post pics soon of these Super small seeds.I also found a large ORANGE seed while going threw the seeds. It sticks out really easily out of the 1,000's of seeds.

What do you guys and gals think the results will be?Ain't Indica seeds smaller than Sativa or is it the opposite?

There is a reason for finding a few huge seeds in a batch of otherwise normal size seeds. These huge seeds are the result of a preflower being polinated. The preflower will produce one large seed, as opposed to many average seeds from a bud.

Sounds like BS, I know. But try it the next time you are slinging a little pollen. Pollinate a few preflowers, and a small bud. You'll end up with huge seeds from the preflowers, and smaller consistent sized seeds from the bud.

Try it, I'm not BSing.

I have seeds from about 20 different cuts... all pollinated from the same pollen.

Each different pack of seeds is very uniform in size and color. Some mums turned out big fat stripies.... others turned out big fat plain janes. Some turned out itty-bitty seeds. :D

I've found huge and tiny seeds in both indicas and sativas. Sam's OHaze x Skunk (sativa) are tiny, just like the Purple Citral x Uzbek (indica). However the SSH x Jack Herer (sativa) were quite big. I would be tempted to think it is related to calyx shape and/or size. Therefore, I would rather think that genetics determine seed shape and size.
As an example, the Satori seeds I received last year were huge, amongst the biggest I'd ever seen. I did some f2s, lots of them actually, and all the seeds were as big as the original ones. But when I used the same Satori males on a NL x Superskunk plant, the resulting seeds were smaller (the NL x SS had smaller calyxes than the Satori).
WelderDan, I am not saying you're wrong, your points makes sense. I'll try to compare preflower seeds and regular calyx seeds next time I chuck some pollen.

I picked up that tidbit from an OGer a long time back. But I urge you to see for yourself. I have no explanation why it happens, other than it does. As I said, it sounds like BS, but it's true.

I'm doing a seed run this go 'round. I'll try to remember to hit a few preflowers for comparison.

There is nothing special about the seeds themselves though. It's not like they produce monster plants too, though it would be nice!

sam skunkmans orig haze x skunk are very small seeds which leads me to believe that sativa= small and indica seeds are large.

i wanted to do this same experiment. good luck to you!

Yell im just doing this just to see if the results are more Indica or Sativa.I will be growing the small seeds at a plot all to themselves so they wont get mixed up.

here's a few of my seeds

I'll try and remember what the line up was

but the far right is the gt akha that was offered by the real seed company a few months ago, I haven't had time to germinate any.

there's a nepalese in there, an african, 2 colombians, an haze, a north afghan indica, the purple chitral and another pakistani plant.

The experiment I would like to see, would include seeds from the same mother, same father.
Select small and large seeds and compare.
Select seeds from the top cola and bottom branches and compare.

If your using Mexican commercial weed and other bag weed, you are going to end up with a lot of factors. Have fun experimenting.
