i would say it is one of the best cust of a selected strain. some there are no seeds for, others stand out above the rest of their sisters in every way.

An "Elite Strain" to me would be one that dominates the market. Og Kush, Bluedream, and trainwreck for example are dominate strains in my area. And they're not hard to come by either. Anyone else think this way or am i just stoned? :joint:

Hey, I'm not trying to "win" anything. It's just like, my opinion, man!

But I think you see the point I'm getting at. Somewhere, someone found a few seeds and thought "I'm gonna grow this, it's some bomb weed!" Selective breeding for a specific result is a given at this point. Finding a gem, a sport or elite is gravy.

And much respect to you!

strains that cant compare to any other strains when compared side by side in growth, smell, resin, taste, etc. ok how is that not the same thing. lol

Well, no. They can compare, as they are comparatively superior.

I don't understand your question . . . please rephrase?

That sounds more like a popular strain. No?

i usually reserve the title for strains that lift their pinkie when they drink.

Elite refers to phenotype, not strain. Stupid fucking concept. Grow seed, find winners, be unique.

someone should really look into the word and what it means in plant breeding, instead of butchering it with your own wrong opinions.:comfort:

i think and elite strain is one that stands out among the rest no matter what you may think of it or not. an example of what im saying is CHEESE (the UK, cut only CHEESE), and then theres BUBBLEGUM, MANGO and the like. the high is impeccable, what you can get from it is undeniable (oil, hash) and those qualities that make it stand out from the rest no matter what its up against. genetic stability is a factor as well.

but these days it hard to say because, when your breeding, breeders look for the things about a strain that stand out to "them" and want to lock those aspects into the breeding process for longevity of the strain.

a breeder may harp on smell, or trich/resin production another my look at vigor as important or they may have to decide between various things and choose whats important. so breeders are just as important as the strains they produce.

you dont have to be a champ to produce a champ BUT you do have to have champion "noticing" skills and once that strain is out there then its out there

back in the day i had a true clone of stella blue.

it was a very unique strain in smell and taste. it was not the best yeilder but for bag appeal and flavor it was unmatched.

its been 3 years since i lost it and have not smoked it or its like since.

that kind of sums up elite to me

i still have stella blue going mate and still have seeds , crossed out the hermi traits , and msot have much more range than the coffee shop ones , i collected them from many crops of dutch stella , for me the stella blue is some of the finest ganja to date ,

this pheno has a strong goeey kushness and skunk smell to it ,

When I first started growing I cared more about 'elites'. I think part of the idea behind them is that people like to share experiences. I prefer to share mine with a limited few. Elites allow us to say things like "dude, have you tried X?" and easily find some to smoke.

Im sure like many others,i have found at least 2 or 3 plants from seeds i would consider elites. They stand out from the others you have grown, for their special charateristics.Usually but not always ,they seem to be smaller yielders. The chances of finding something elite, greatly increases when you start with good genetics to begin with .No need to chase special clones, just start with some good seeds and get to work...

We had never heard of the term 'elite clone' before the internet. A 'workable clone' or a 'good clone' yes, but they were never deemed elite by anyone.

Hope this helps

Elite I think is about hype and hoarding. It's already been said, but, grow out enough seeds and you will find "your" elites. Look at the old Brothers Grimm story, 4 ish pheno's found in 1 bud produced some of the most sought after clones around. Princess, Genius, etc. Just very nice phenos of Jack really. No massive #'s of plants grown out to find them. If I remember the story right, they found 4-5 seeds and those phenos became their most popular strains, C99, Apollo and a couple others. I'm not saying they didn't do a great job with the subsequent breeding after finding those seeds, but, those "elite" clones don't really seem that rare. Some people would pay big bucks for cuts of Genius or Princess, it would be a lot cheaper to grow out a bunck of Jack.
