SCROG - White Widow, Jacky White, Ice Cream

Grow is all from seed.
Males have been pulled.

3 Strains

  1. Nirvana White Widow - 10 seeds
  2. Paraside Seeds Fem. Jacky White - 5 seeds
  3. Paradise Seeds Fem. Ice Cream - 5 seeds

Ended up with

  • 4 x Ice Cream (1 mutant)
  • 4 x Jacky white (1 seed failed to pop)
  • 4 x White widow ( 1 fail to pop, 1 mutant / runt, 4 males
Plant info;

White Widow - Mg deficiency problems in early life, mostly my own fault due to not keeping a close eye on P.H. - seems more sativa dominant that the other two. These seeds also have had the largest genetic variation between each plant.

Jacky White - Good veg growth, strong, sturdy, all phenos from the seeds have grown almost identical, nice branching and node distance. Sat/Ind hybrid with seems more dominant indica.

Ice Cream - All plants seem to almost be mutant like in their desire to not want to grow vertically. Its taken some time but the distance between nodes is VERY small and very tight compact growth. I've read other people saying the same and it would appear to be true and thus good for people growing with limited head high. .. ta-da - very indica in growth patterns and once again from Paradise Seeds, all phenos from the seeds have very similair growth patterns.

Other notes;
Males have now been pulled from the grow.
Plants have been bent over instead of topped, although some broke and thus ended up topped.

Growing style;
Plants grown in rockwool cubes, on top of rockwool slab, sitting in gullys, with slow drippers running for 15 mins every hour.

Nutes
GH nutes with boosters at Bio Roots for during veg and now Bio Bloom for during flower.

Lighting
600w cool tube HPS. . will be switching to 1000w bat wing at about start of week 3 of flower. - I am not interested in a huge yield, only the best quality rather than quantity for my smoke.

Tent size
120cm x 120cm x 200cm.
Inside the tent on the poles have been lined with velcrow and then the extra thick mylar around the inside. Also mylared up the bottom of the grow shelf that the gulleys sit on.

Plants are currently on day 3 into 12/12
.. plan on trying to keep them under the mesh for another 4 days.

More updates will come as the flowering process continues.

*Also, each plant is labelled, 'WW A', 'WW B'.. etc and 2 clones taken from each plant to decide on a suitable keeper(s) after the flowering is finished.

Looking good, but I also find multiple-strain grows to be the downfall of hydro. By that I mean you can't adjust the nutrients for each strain without adjusting them for all.

But, nonetheless, it looks good. Good luck.

wow mate beautiful set up! kudos! yeah i had the same issues with a mate and myself we got 5 feminised white widow seeds, germed 4, 1 failed to pop, with 2 very strong/bushy plants looking a little indica dominant and 1 that was completely different with really thin leaves much paler green leaves... bizarre stuff.

Thank you all posters for your kind words and consideration.

I'd agree with you dude, just been trying to find that balance between good light coverage to the edges / light intensity and growth rate.

Couldn't agree with you more mens. With one reservior, one feeding system, and multiple strains AND all from seed, you can bet this has got finishing problems written all over it.

My plan to help with the finishing of these is going to involve another smaller res of pure water and/or a flushing agent, and once a plant starts to near reader I will switch their drippers over to this one. While I know this isn't ideal, its the best I can manage until I'm on a clone only single strain grow..etc

In an ideal world I'd have;

  • 6 gulleys with rockwool slabs in them
  • each slab planted with 6/10 clones
  • 2 new gulleys planted every 3 weeks, and 2 being harvested every 3 weeks for perpetual harvest job.
This would also require 3 seperate res' - 3 pumps..etc but I have thought about it. Maybe in the future.

This made me smile. I have that same pheno, the one with the 'really thin leaves much paler green leaves'.
Looks really sick most of the time, but I let him continue to run because you never know, out of the lot, he might just end up producing the best weed. So unpredictable how some of them flower so who knows eh :)

Still boring

Still boring

I've didn't bother updating last week (flower day 7) as i still find this the boring waiting stage. I did however log it for records.

I apologise in advance for the poor quality pics. Tried photoshopping but very much good.

Day 28

Day 28

Day 28 Flowering

Well I didn't do an update on day 21 as I thought they still looked pretty boring.

Overall the plants seem slow to develop compared to other like for like grows I've been watching.

Problems so far:
Well I had a major booboo twice now, as somtimes I have to go away for work, and come back to find my PH at 4 !!

Another problem is the stretch, if you look through the photos my god have these plants stretched or what, I was hoping they'd have settled by day 21 but they seem to keep going and i'm at max height with the light and not much more room left.

My Screen of Green is now no more, the screen is long gone, burried under about 1-1.5 foots worth of green shoots.

Disaster but I guess what do I expect growing from seed on a new strain.. Grr !!

Anyways, heres some photos to update:

AfroSheep

I am who I am coz I is who I is.
mmm looking delicious man, were they trained under the scrog wiring in its younger days to slow growth on main branches and spread it out. hmm now that i look at the pictures, maybe since its 12/12 from seed that downtime in early life is stretching the strems alot b4 the lights back on.

Hey Afro Sheep, yes they were trained under the screen til end of week day 9 ish, then I let them grow up, intending to have a carpet full of buds about 9 inches high sticking up above the screen, instead ended up with another 1.5 foots worth of stretch ! They have definatly stretched like absolute mad ! Its crazy in there.

Good news I have agressived lollypopped them all and cut out a couple of shopping bags worth of green veggy shoots from the bottom of the canopy.

I too am growing some Ice Cream clones, from Paradise Seeds, and am 30 days into Flowering and have vegged mine for 28 days. If you want to take a look:

Hey dude I just left a msg on your thread - I dont know if you've also seen it but theres a 'ice cream' titled thread somewhere and I'm gunna post my pics up on that to for other people considering this strain.

Ice Cream has shown minimal stretch out of all my plants during the initial flowering lighting change and seems to be really compact... I've also read this on that Ice Cream thread but yours look pretty well balanced up.

Mine are just coming up to day 35 at the moment and starting to really trich up but still little weight on them yet, I'll have more pics next week.

Things are starting to get really frosty, the ww looks the most advanced of all the strains in terms of bud development, the jacky white and ice cream seem to have only just started to fill their boots.

No doubt going to cause me some trouble finishing them with nice clear flushing, not looking forward to that.

WW is the most trich covered, although in the last 3 days the jacky white has double in size in terms of bud production and resin production.

Ice Cream is still being a squat as ever, hardly grown upwards at all, probably be the lowest yielding i imagine, with jacky white probably leveling of with white widow in terms of yield.

great job so far, cant wait for the results but Im sure the most excited person is you. Im growing JACK WHITE as well. mine are clones from a indica dom mother. Also growing side my side with MR.NICE CRITICAL MASS and white rhino.. all from clone from verified mothers from roiginal seed packs.

So I will be very happy to post some comparison picks of my jack white to see the difference..

great job..

where do you get those gullies? I havent be able to find them..
