you would need to build an intake/exhaust box.... not sure a gennie inside the garage is safe, with the toxic killer fumes and all. but that aside you would be looking at heat build up in a small area, killer toxic exhaust fumes, and very loud noise that would most certainly transfer through the house. also refueling would be a biotch...

some solutions:
build a sound dampening box thats airtight that will pull intake air from outside. then exhaust the spent toxic air back outside. you would want any of that shit leaking into the house or you may wake up dead.... shit happens all the time, people run a generator inside the garage even with a partially opened garage door...

though about all of these things

I was considering a diesel 1800 rpm generator to cut down on noise and maybe a sound proof enclosure that is properly ventilated and all exhaust routed out of the house for safety issues. I've seen this done in warehouses etc. I was just curious if anyone has transferred this to a home/neighborhood enviornment

i was gonna say, a slow speed diesel would be in order for 24/7 use... i know a new 12kw will run you around 3-4k, you could turn down the rpm even to 50% and supply plenty, and if you use too much, feed it back into the grid the electric company will pay you full price for overage... although you are paying for fuel at about .4-.5 gallons an hour... not cheap.

Nobody does genny ops in cities because it costs more than your power bill would. How many lights and what is your kwh cost?

You can't run a gasoline generator 24x7 for more than a week before they burn up.
Your neighbors will hear it (60db is NOT silent, can be heard for a block or two on a quiet night.) There's also nothing you can do about the smell of diesel, the weekly downtime for oil changes, regular engine rebuilds, massive fuel tanks and regular deliveries, not to mention how you think not one neighbor wouldn't notice all of this. It simply is not done.

Move to the country, miles from your nearest neighbor and probably off grid. Do a 30-100 light grow, hire someone else to run it, and then you can do a genny and all it requires. But not under any other circumstances is it a feasible way to grow.

listen to lazy.

I wouldn't run a diesel genny on less than 5 acres personally.

1 of my mates works on these for a living... You could hide a small one but for a commercial grow you would need to live far fom neighbours....

Yes solar panels!! I want to do that so bad I seen a huge op growing off a solar power gig transferring the power to batteries and storing it! Then a power panel being ran off the batteries it was in Cali. Seen it in skunk mag I believe!

They are expensive as a motherfu..

But if you come here and get a license to grow legally what are you worried about, do you have $25 K - $50 K to drop on solar panels, batteries, & installation?

thanks everyone for the input, i will be running a 3600 watt grow but i will be living on the property. i plan to run a 7200 watt grow but i am going to move from the property in order to save on electricity consumption. anyone think a 7200 watt grow would turn heads at 9.5 cents a kilowatt hour?

I wouldn't even bat an eye at those wattages unless you're on BC Hydro or in Florida (both of whom have power companies that rat you out to the cops for high consumption.) I did an 8KW at my house and am doing a 16KW at another house, and my power is 4X the price of yours. It's STILL cheaper than a generator and solar panels.

I would do some research on here and Google to find the words, grow, marijuana, electricity etc and see if you can find ANY reports of the power company ratting out customers. I would spend a day or two doing this. If you find NOTHING you're probably ok, also try the state forums and see if you can find larger growers on the grid in your area. If you find guys doing bigger grows you're probably gonna be fine.

thanks lazyman i appreciate the input, especially on this type of subject. I do live in a very un-friendly pot state but i think ill be ok in my area i still have the old school electricity meters and my ballasts run whole day to prevent surges. if i was'nt living there 7200 would be strait especially since my business will be registered out of the property, excusing some of these high consumption rates.

luckily where i am located you can register a residental home as a business address
