Look for those little white pistils (hairs) and you know it's a girl.

See those pistils in the top pic, they are already starting to change colour. As the flowering period progresses the plant will begin to stretch and more and more pistils will be produced. These initially white pistils will change in colour from white to amber (red).

Thank you HiC.
But the pistils are the "first appearing"
on a young female plant (lemon thai).
Are some pistils um more colorful early on?

Are you talking about a single one at each node? If you look at the first pic posted by HighCountry you see the pairs of white hairs, in between them at the stalk are two green shoot things, sorry I don't know their name. These appear before the pods with the actual pistils and can have some color to them.

Hi Major CottonMouth
No, I'm referring to pistils-on female preflowers
they are RED not white, not brown.
Thanks

Males always grow taller with longer internode spacing and i cant really tell for sure but i am guessing thats a male due to the long node spacing.

Hi Guys
No, these are female preflowers on female plants with RED pistils-not
shriveled, not pollinated
.
What kind of camera do I need to take a picture to show you? Something
really fancy?
Thanks

I use a camera called Nikon CoolPix. 6.2 megapixels. It's nothing fancy, not an SLR but has macro capability. I can get shots like this. Here is a clone of mine. White pistils forming.

Hi C
Beautiful picture. I just tried with my canon powershotSX100 10Xzoom 8 megapixels
and couldnt' get anything magnified like yours. I'll have to reread the manual.
I looked again at my Bodhi lemon thai (these are the ones with red hairs) and it could
be that these are the "ends" of white pistils (see first pic by poster above) that
have dried? Plant is well watered and healthy-so I don't think pistils have dried out.
Do pistils dry up after preflowering before "real flowers"?

I'm sure that camera of yours will do the job. I have never really noticed pistils drying up prior to more forming. The pre flowers are the beginning of the whole flowering process, maybe someone else can help here.

No they remain white untill later on close to harvest.
The pic of the plant i posted is ready to harvest and although the pistils still look white they are acually the same as the pistils shown in pic 3 of the other attatchement i posted showing the harvest line. (stigmas are pistils/same thing)
