What's new

Need info on strains with high(er) CBD levels/something that isn't "stoney"

When I make butters, the result is a lot more stoney/sleepy. Tinctures and edibles made with hash or bho seem to me, to provide more of a body high.

You might want to try mother natures miricle on littleton blvd, they have medicated rinks that are really good. I would go with the sodas over the famacy drinks, as the sodas are made here in colorado, have more medicine in it, and they taste better for the same price $15 each plus tax. They are a mom and pop shop, super friendly and knowledgeable.

I make my own bho lollipops and hard candies and they work really well for relief without knocking one out, but some people are more sensitive to edibles than others, and it also depends on what kind of edible you're talking about and whether it was made with hash, cannabutter or bho.

while certainly high in cbd and cbn IMO this strain is still pretty stoney, works well for pain/insomnia. It's called the Sherpa and it's available in Colorado.. Here's the lab tests from it..sherpa (mk-ultra x og kush)

True Blueberry x OG Kush

Of course, it's always the BB man that is one of the reasons the blue family is so great for relaxation & anxiety. I need to get my Sweet Tooth hybrid tested, I KNOW it's high in cannabinoids because I can feel them.:woohoo:

I noticed this thread is about CBD producing strains, and it's an area of great interest to me -- so I'm copying some links & other info i had also posted today on GP to stimulate discussion --

I think this is an unexplored area that is important, because of the untapped medical benefits, and because there are very few CBD producing strains suitable for indoor growing etc.

:ying:
This lab in Colorado does testing of cannabis for THC, CBD and CBN for $120:

http://www.fullspectrumlaboratories.com/botanical-testing/tests-we-offer

(... what if people organized a database to keep track of the testing and identification of CBD producing strains, so people don't duplicate efforts testing the same strains...?)

The O'Shaughnessy's summer 2009 issue which has several articles related to CBD (link to pdf files), one mentioned Soma A+ and other CBD producing strains:

http://www.pcmd4u.org/OShaughnessys/New_Issue.html

I've just pollinated a Soma A+ clone (said to be medium-CBD-medium-THC) with two types of male pollen that have been progeny tested for quality, yield etc... a humboldt afghani strain from the 80s and a dj short blueberry. That was only a few days ago, and I'm waiting for definite signs that it worked.

If the resulting seeds are viable, I'll grow those out for males to breed more hybrids with. Half of those males should be "medium-CBD-medium-THC", so i plan to cross several with a large variety of drug strain "mostly THC" females in the next cycle. This would create dozens of CBD-producing hybrids; potential mother plants.
:watchplant:

There isn't much information as to whether certain ratios of CBD, like say 1:4 CBD:THC, could be therapeutic for certain conditions, and then maybe 1:1 works better others. Perhaps other cannabinoids or terpenoids must be present even smaller amounts to cause certain benefits. Like the "Project CBD" article linked earlier in the thread says "The doctors want, eventually, to test the effectiveness of cannabis with consistent CBD/THC ratios in treating various conditions."

There was a dispensary here, that sold a weed OJ... extremely potent, for like $25 a 8 oz bottle. One dose was 2 oz. They said they took a year to gather over 300 strains to mix into each batch; because they found that the high diversity of different strains, contributed all the possible cannabinoids. The place closed but I tried the stuff. It was a unique effect.

... I've read somewhere that even with "mostly THC" plants, there is significant CBD in the large leaves, especially low on the plant. It seems to be an area that deserves more research.. Like when people harvest and would chuck most of that leaf out, maybe they could make tincture instead or CBD joints... I knew a guy from mexico who put it leaves in rubbing alcohol and said it's a folk medicine for pain... dunno about the rubbing alcohol but still. It's funny because like feminized seeds, I think it's an old idea that just came back up more lately... i think CBD was also covered in the old mel frank and ed rosenthal books, about the different parts of the same plant having different amounts of THC and CBD...

I hope someone starts a Database of strains and at least the area and year they were grown/tested.
yep... i guess it would need to keep track of any strains that were tested at all, whether they have CBD or not. Over time it could turn into a large database that provides useful info. And even with multiple test results for some strains... that would still be alright, to check for consistency etc., get an average....

I have made tinctures from Sweet Tooth #4 using Everclear and soaked the buds and trim for about a week after grinding up everything really good in a coffee grinder. I evaporated off all of the alcohol in about 2-3 hours by slowly simmering the extracted liquid that was filtered through a thin cotton cloth in a big glass pyrex bowl set inside another large pot filled with very slowly boiling water (sit the glass bowl on a small plate or some type of spacer to keep it off the bottom of the large pot & protect from high heat) When it all is said and done and all the liquid gone I actually got a solid dark sticky hash like substance that was like putty, probably from the great resin content of the Sweet Tooth. You can eat it or dissolve it in hot tea, it smokes nice too but needs to be on some dry herb to do so or it will just bubble and melt (nearly full melt) the effect is very soothing and relaxing, seems to be very high in CBD's and not too much of a head high as it's mostly felt in the body. Hopefully you will have similiar results but just make sure to let the bud fully mature until glands start to go cloudy and make sure they are totally dry before grinding. It is some very good medicine for me and seems to eliminate most of the bad muscle twitches I get sometimes at night for some reason. Relieves anxiety and muscle tension very well too and puts me in a very zen like state of bliss and off into deep sleep.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS METHOD IS ONLY FOR A STOVE THAT IS NOT AN OPEN FLAME OR EXPOSED BURNER, ONLY SAFE TO DO WITH A FLAT SURFACE ELECTRIC TYPE STOVE. YOU MUST HAVE GOOD FRESH AIR VENTILATION WHILE DOING THIS AS THE ALCOHOL FUMES CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS TO INHALE TOO MUCH OF OR CAN BE VERY FLAMMABLE. PLEASE BE SAFE!

Lifesaver is known to be very high in CBD and is available here again. Yunnan is another that may have this benefit also and I have a friend of mine putting the two together for me shortly. Hoping for a very high CBD strain.

Yunnan is nearly a prehistoric strain from what I have read, may be one of the original forms of Cannabis if I recall correctly. Might prove invaluable for breeding some medicinally beneficial strains with. I need to add those beans to my stable actually now that I think about it. :)

I read somewhere that when you let a strain go for a longer flowering time than the usual time period it can degrade thc into other psychoactives...
maybe cbd amongst others?

When a plant is flowered longer than normal, say 75 days on a "60 day" strain and then allowed to cure for several months I find it to be a much more relaxing and comforting effect. A pure indica such as hindu kush is a good place to start. More of the relaxing and pain killing effects without the mind altering effects. Good luck finding that in a dispensary though. Most chop early and quick dry to get it to market faster.

Start with small doses if you are new to it. The being really stoned part is normal until you build a tolerance, it may take a month or two. After that you will be much more functional.

Definitely agreed on the fully mature part, wait til the trichomes are all cloudy and going amber for less of a mind blast and more body to the high.

Do you recall the amount of CBD that was found to have? Or other info?

Fellow stoner scientists please throw out ideas about how to make a website or something to track these details in an efficient and reliable manner...? I'm going to try to put one together soon...

Maybe we can have it in a subforum here on icmag? Much like the strainguide we have already or an addition of info fields to it?

I'll have to search for that info but I think it may have been 7 or 8%

Thanks !!!!!
Another question...there seems to be some difference of opinion as to whether its better to make tinctures or make butter with the plants. Any thoughts??

I REALLY appreciate the help!!
I like budder because you can cook with it. But if I could ever find oil or tincture,I would try it in a minute.:)
