LED Questions

Hi there,

A few questions regarding LED lighting.

1. Would two UFO 90w be sufficient for a cab area of around 30"w x 20"d x 30"h - plants would have 18" of vertical growth (taking into account 8" pots & lights kept 4" from tops).

The spectrum of the UFO in question is: Red 660 nm, Blue 470 nm, Orange 615 nm, white 3300 k.

2. I was thinking 2 per cab, topped - would a gram per watt be doable? or would a SOG be more advisable?.

3. How does LED lighting compare with Grolux fluorescent tubes?

Cheers :good:

I'm moving this thread over to another section as it is not currently in the proper forum.

To answer your question though, with LED's you get what you pay for. There isn't a single 90W UFO on eBay that could outperform our lights watt for watt, and most couldn't even come within half the yield at the same wattage. They are poorly designed, missing spectral outputs, and some include colors like orange (615nm) which do little to nothing for plant growth. They use wide dispersion lenses which are 4x less intense than our 60 degree lens, and therefore there is less penetration which means less light absorption.

With only 660nm red and 470nm, you are missing HALF of the spectral peaks necessary for photosynthesis at 439nm and 642nm.

As far as a gram per watt goes, beginners and 1st time LED users have been doing it quite consistently with our products. Others are now going higher than 1 gram per watt, at 1.4-1.8 grams per watt.
